Collapse all
|Kim Jackson serves as Senator for Georgia State Senate District 41, representing portions of Dekalb and Gwinnett counties. Kim works every day to build a safer, fairer, and more prosperous Georgia, and bring the diverse voices of her district to the Capitol: immigrants, refugees, and people living on the margins.
In her first years, Kim has defended our voting rights against relentless attacks; authored life-saving legislation for stalking victims which passed both chambers unanimously; secured unprecedented funds for Black farmers; started serving as co-chair of the Mental Health Caucus; and earned appointment to the Georgia Commission on Family Violence. In this year’s session, Kim passed legislation to create an Address Confidentiality Program for victims/survivors of domestic violence, stalking violence, and human trafficking.
An Episcopal priest from the rural South, Kim made Georgia home over a decade ago. After graduating from Furman University, Kim volunteered as an EMT and led her colleagues at Emory’s Candler School of Theology to advocate for Criminal Justice Reform in Georgia. Over the past 10 years of ministry, she has served as a college chaplain, a nationally renowned consultant and preacher, and a parish priest. As Vicar of the Church of the Common Ground, Kim co-creates church with people who are experiencing homelessness in downtown Atlanta. Kim and her family live in Stone Mountain. She and her wife are stewards of a small farm in Georgia.
- ECONOMIC JUSTICE: PROVIDING POVERTY RELIEF Finding solutions for homelessness, push for Medicaid expansion, advocating for affordable childcare, investing in public schools, and enhancing economic participation/opportunity for immigrants
- ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE: SAFEGUARDING THE ENVIRONMENT Investing in GA’s agriculture/urban farming and championing clean/renewable energy campaigns
- SOCIAL JUSTICE: PROTECTING THE MARGINALIZED Standing up for LGBTQ+/Trans community, breaking down barriers for immigrant communities, investing in maternal health initiatives (specifically black maternal health), and providing safety for women & children from domestic violence, stalking, and trafficking
Urban farming, uplifting the LGBTQ+ community, protecting marginalized communities (especially our refugee/immigrant population)
I hope to leave a legacy of treating every person that I come across, whether on the streets of Atlanta or in the Capitol, with respect and dignity. Only in this way can we truly hope to create a fairer and safer Georgia for every single Georgian.
Building relationships both within your political party and across the aisle is crucial to enacting effective legislation. Without the ability to communicate in a bipartisan way, legislation stalls out and little can be done to further one's own priorities for their constituents. One of my biggest personal accomplishments while in office has been the building of relationships with the most seemingly opposite colleagues, which has led to doors opening for me to enact REAL, life-saving change while in office.

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
