Selection method

Judges of the Oregon Court of Appeals are chosen in nonpartisan elections to serve six-year terms, after which they must run for re-election if they wish to continue serving.[4] In the event of a midterm vacancy, the governor appoints a replacement. The appointee serves until the next general election occurring 60 or more days after the appointment, at which point he or she may run for election.[4]

Qualifications

To serve on the court of appeals, a judge must be:

  • a qualified elector of his or her county of residence;
  • a state bar member; and
  • under the age of 75.[4]

Selection of the chief judge

The chief judge of the court of appeals is appointed by the chief justice of the Oregon Supreme Court to serve a two-year term.[4]

2012

Hadlock was elected Oregon Court of Appeals, Position 9, after running unopposed.[5] She earned 99.31 percent of the vote in the May 15th primary.[6]
