Justice Brewer would have been required to stand for election by voters in 2018 in order to remain on the bench, but he retired before the end of his term.
2012
Brewer was elected after running unopposed for the Position 2 seat on the Oregon Supreme Court in 2012.
At the time of his announcement to run, he said:
“ | I think I can make a positive contribution to the court having been the author of nearly 700 appellate court opinions in more than 12 years of service on the Court of Appeals. . . . I have handled hundreds more cases in the trenches before that as a trial judge on the Lane County Circuit Court. I have a proven record of independence, hard work and commitment to the rule of law in Oregon.[3][4] | ” |
