- Pragmatism and passion to serve the public. Consulting and cooperating on a wide range of family issues in pursuant of a better tomorrow for our children, grandchildren and their children. As an immigrant, a military mother and grandmother, I am focusing on the things that impact my family's life which are things that are impacting other people's lives too in my district. The purchasing power of the dollar is decreasing every day and that is our new reality. Finding practical solutions that will not end up in political commercials but make a difference to the family budget is a top priority. Partnering with the communities and other key stakeholders to shape these priorities for urgent transformative actions.
- Public safety is key to state development and greater prosperity for our nation. The cost of not acting is pretty high and impacts the lives of all Georgians. Building trust and relationships that forges peace and development in the communities, and unity and security at the state level. Building consensus to seek lasting solutions to the economic, social and political challenges must be pursued to strengthen law enforcement, enforce immigration laws to restore the hopes and aspirations for good citizenship in the lives of Georgians.
- Playing field for our children be one of high-quality education to help them reach their God-given potential. It sparks joy for me to see my grandchildren running freely at school and at public parks. Together, our dreams for these children to grow up in stable and prosperous communities is a priority for Georgians. Providing high quality education and health care will strengthen economies, build talents that are critical for building prosperous communities. Our children deserve the future they want, of a prosperous and robust Georgia.
1. Public safety and security
Be aware and informed, provide context on matters and issues of security and safety for the communities at all levels before positions, recommendations and actions are taken. This requires consultation and policy dialogue with all at stake to initiate the appropriate responses to the needs of the communities and citizens.
2. Education and health for community development
Building and enhancing communities is always from a place of hope and a place of possibility motivated by our aspirations. We co-create, we stand together with the communities to identify and develop policy and legislation that reflects the needs of the district. High quality education and health services are aspirations of families.
I believe I have these qualities:
• Strong leadership, organization and solid management experience and decision-making skills in managing and working with people, and on policy work.
• Strategic and visionary and strong ability to conceptualize and convey strategic vision from the spectrum of development experience.
• Pragmatic and strong ability to work with people across the spectrum and teams.
• Excellent negotiating and consensus building, and networking skills for strategic and effective partnerships.
• Experience in strategic planning and analysis, economic and social analysis of sectors and policies; solid knowledge and understanding of economic and social issues at state, federal levels and globally.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills for working in multi-cultural environments.
. Experience in rule of law and conflict-resolution.
. Professional diplomacy and political savvy.
An American leader that left an impact and made a difference to her community. She was committed to give back, rise up and support shaping of a brighter future for her grandchildren and their children.
I was an Economist for a development finance institution in my birth country (Tonga), and held this job for 4 years. My island country's population is around the same as the population census record of 189,618 for SD 40 of Georgia. I was 25 years old then, and I thought I had all the solutions for my communities in the island nation! Obviously, I was wrong. In my quest to learn more on how to give back to my communities and expand my horizons, I landed on my second job as a Program Economist for another development finance institution known as the Asian Development Bank with its headquarters in Manila, Philippines. This was the beginning of a journey that grew my passion, determination, and commitment to help others from all walks of life towards achieving their aspirations to be good citizens and have a better life. At this junction, I had a family, my late husband - Miti Siamomua and our five young children. The roadmap for my life had high and low moments, and one of the high moments to mention is when my family migrated to the United States in 2005. That was a step in the right direction and I did it right! America opened the gates to furthering the education for my children at the Georgia State University, Kennesaw University, Seattle University and the University of Hawaii. In 2005, I landed in my first US job working on humanitarian and development assistance as a Senior Advisor for CARE at Ellis St, Downtown Atlanta. Years later, I joined the Department of Social and Economic Affairs at headquarters of the United Nations in New York, on a policy-advisory role, providing technical assistance through building and enhancing communities through policy consultations and development; consensus building with leaders, parliamentarians, judiciary, high-level officials, and multi-stakeholders on socio-economic issues of development, good governance, and sustainable development in developing countries in Africa, Asia-Pacific, and the Caribbean.
How Great Thou Art
Public Safety
There is no doubt on the importance of public safety to any community. Public safety is fundamental to the well-being and quality of life of individuals, communities, at state level and for our nation. This is the environment desired for any development - where people can live, work, study, worship, visit, cook-out and pursue their aspirations with great confidence and a sense of security.
Maintaining public safety requires the coordination, cooperation, commitment, care, and implementation of various elements. Law enforcement agencies, including police departments, play a crucial role in crime prevention, investigation, and maintaining order. Their services and proactive engagement with communities contribute to deterrence and early warning and intervention. Effective policing involves community partnerships, intelligence-led approaches, and a partnership that promotes fairness and accountability.
I have confidence that I will draw on my professional and personal experience of pursuing effective strategies with communities and nations on the subject will benefit my participation and contribution to the mandate of the Public Safety Committee. The challenges and opportunities in public safety for Georgia and our nation are significant. To not act is costly. Addressing these challenges requires planning, programs and enforcement of the laws, and proactively implementing social programs, and planning for the fast pace of new forms of crime that presents unique challenges to our state and the general public safety.
