OAKLAND â Riverside won its home tournament on Saturday, behind a championship performance by Jaxon Gordon and seven other runner-up finishes.
Gordon won the 150-pound championship, getting an action-packed 17-11 victory over Deagan Pasley of Savannah (Mo.). He scored a pin and a technical fall to advance to the championship.
Bulldog runner-up finishers were Kingston Carrigan (120), Davis Bramman (126), Drew Anderson (132), Jack Branan (144), Taven Moore (157), Jett Rose (165) and AC Roller (175).
Kellen Oliver was fourth at 138, while Caden Forriall took fifth at 215 and Gaven Hackett sixth at 190. That was enough to give the Bulldogs 208.5 points, 20-1/2 ahead of runner-up Logan-Magnolia.
AHSTW, which finished 10th, won a pair of championships: Kayden Baxter at 175 and Henry Lund at 285.
Baxter improved to 10-0 by pinning all three of his opponents, including Roller in the championship. His longest match was the quarterfinal, a 2:18 pin o Jaxsen Simmert of Shenandoah. Lund also pinned all three of his opponents, including a first-period pinfall victory over Griswoldâs RJ Dishong.
The other area finalist was Griswoldâs Dishong, the lone Tiger of the four who competed to win a match. Dishong pinned his first two opponents and got a 17-9 major decision over Clarindaâs Mason Nally prior to his match vs. Lund.
It was a (somewhat) scaled back meet due to the weather, with several teams having smaller than usual rosters for the day. ACGC, which was scheduled to compete, did not have a wrestler in action. The meet time was moved back to 11 a.m. due to road conditions from Friday nightâs freezing rain.
Just four Audubon wrestlers competed on the day, and three of them placed, paced by Leyton Elmquistâs third place finish. He got the 2-0 win over Earlhamâs Konner Keller to take the bronze at 113 pounds. Jack Stanerson (150) was fourth and Keaton Reis was fifth at 120.
CAM had just two wrestlers competing, and neither placed, but 150-pounder Kegan Croghan went 2-2 ont he day with a pin and a decision win.
Atlantic sent four wrestlers to compete as well: Dayton Van Horn (106), Landon Hagen (126), Dart Hansen (138) and Reece Long (285).
Audubon was 11th at 39.5 points, Griswold 13th at 27 points and CAM 14th with five points.
