 Course Descriptions
This course covers various topics in Organic Chemistry, which includes a review of
relevant topics from General Chemistry, a study of the structure and bonding of
organic compounds, the nomenclature (IUPAC and common) of organic molecules
with various functional groups, an introduction to writing reaction mechanisms, and
some of the reaction chemistry and preparation of alkenes, alkynes, alcohols, ether,
aromatic compounds, ketones, aldehydes, amine sand carboxylic acids.
Also, the students will be introduced to the concepts of stereochemistry and the
bioactivities of optically active organic compounds.

 Course Objectives
The aims of this course are to get the students to the level of:
 Understanding the basic principles of organic chemistry: structure,
nomenclature, reaction, reaction mechanism, functional group identification
and conversion.
 Analyzing organic chemistry problems and related situations.
 Learn and plan to make a use of organic chemistry in biological science.
