RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This chapter explained the research design and methodology, respondent, research
instrument to be utilized, data gathering procedures and statistical tools for data analysis.
Research Design
This study made use of descriptive research to find out the possible connection of online
learning with the students Mathematical abilities and the hindrances that students are facing
when solving mathematical problems and equations. The extent of online learning as a barrier
to the students’ mathematical abilities and its impact on the students’ learning in Mathematics
has not been examined. This is the reason why descriptive research design was employed.
Also, evaluative research design will also be used to evaluate the barriers being studied by the
researchers.
The respondent of this study were College of Education of Our Lady of Lourdes College
Foundation with consists of 45 students in First year, 24 students in Second year, 26 students in
Third year, and 11 students in Fourth year with the total of 106 students.
TABLE 1
The instrument used in this study was primarily, survey checklist through Google form
about Students mathematical abilities and through consultations with our instructor as well as
our adviser. This was used because it gathered data faster than any other methods.
The data gathering instrument was structured as a scale from 1-4. Where in the (1) is
strongly disagree, (2) is disagree, (3) is uncertain is, (4) is agree and the last one is, (5) strongly
agree.
Survey Checklist. This will be used to answer the following question: What is the “profile” of the
students in terms of Year level and Age. What are the barriers encounters by the students in
online learning? And what are the different mathematical abilities of the student along: Problem
determine the students’ response as to how these will affect them online learning delivery.
Likert Scale. Likert scale were given a numerical value ranging 0.01-5.00 draft of the items that
needs to be submitted to determine the validity and items is improving according to the

forms in asking the College of Education students to be the respondents of the study. The
researchers will also ask for the list of the students of all students in CTE department.
Sources of Data
The researcher will create a survey questionnaire, and afterward, it will be applied to
Google Form so that the respondents will give their answers online. Next, this form will be
distributed to them through a link and will be sent to their Facebook messenger.
Moreover, the respondents will be instructed well on how they will respond to the
questionnaires. The results of the survey questionnaire will serve as primary data in this study.
Thus, confidentiality, the data will be used for interpretation that will support the study.
Another source of data will be based on related literature that we have gathered. Hence,
these related studies will serve as support for the interpretation we have made. Furthermore,
The researcher will provide the questionnaires to the students who were enrolled in
College of Education at Our Lady of Lourdes College Foundation because of their involvement
in this study.
The distribution of questionnaire will be done through Google Forms and facilitated by
the retrieval of responses. The researcher will collect the answered questionnaire.
Statistical Treatment of Data
All collected data were collated for analyses. Appropriate statistical measure were used
and employed to quantify the data and to answer the problem set for the study.
1. Percentage.
This will employ to determine the frequency counts and percentage distribution of
personal related variables of the respondents.
F
Formula: %= +100
N
% is the percentage
F is the frequency
2. Weighted Mean
This will be used to determine the assessment of the respondents with regards to their
personal profiles.
Fx
Formula: X=
N
F is the frequency
3. Chi square test- It will be used to measure the significant relationship between
mathematical abilities of the students and their profile. The formula of chi-square test is
the following:
2
x =∑ ¿ ¿
Where:
2
x = chi-square statistic value
0= observed frequency
E= Expected frequency
