CHAPTER III

Research Methodology

In this chapter the researchers presented the research method used,

locale of the study, respondents of the study, data gathering instruments, validity

of the research instruments, reliability of the research instruments and data

gathering procedure.

Research Design

The research method used in the study was a descriptive research

method that aims to examine the impact of fiscal policy of GFI to the job

performance of its employees. The research study was conducted by giving

survey questionnaire form to the respondents in the campus of Gensantos

Foundation College Incorporated.

In conducting this study, the researchers will make use of the descriptive

type of research in accordance with the quantitative research methodology.

Based on the research standards, a descriptive research is used to obtain

information concerning the current status of the phenomena to describe "what

exists" with respect to variables or conditions in a situation. The methods

involved range from the survey which describes the status quo, the correlation

study which investigates the relationship between variables, to developmental

studies which seek to determine changes over time (Key, J., 1997).
On the other hand, quantitative research objective is to develop and

employ mathematical models, theories and/or hypotheses pertaining to

phenomena. The process of measurement is central to quantitative research

because it provides the fundamental connection between empirical observation

and mathematical expression of quantitative relationships. Quantitative data is

any data that is in numerical form such as statistics, percentages, etc. (Given,

Lisa M. (2008). The Sage encyclopedia of qualitative research methods).

Quantitative research is often contrasted with qualitative research, which is the

examination, analysis and interpretation of observations for the purpose of

discovering underlying meanings and patterns of relationships, including

classifications of types of phenomena and entities, in a manner that does not

involve mathematical models (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT

OpenCourseWare. 11.201 Gateway to the Profession of Planning, Fall 2010. p.

4).

Survey will also be part of the study. As such, surveys represent one of

the most common types of quantitative, social science research. In survey

research, the researcher selects a sample of respondents from a population and

administers a standardized questionnaire to them. The questionnaire, or survey,

can be a written document that is completed by the person being surveyed, an

online questionnaire, a face-to-face interview, or a telephone interview. Using

surveys, it is possible to collect data from large or small populations (sometimes

referred to as the universe of a study). Different types of surveys are actually

composed of several research techniques, developed by a variety of disciplines.

For instance, interview began as a tool primarily for psychologists and

anthropologists, while sampling got its start in the field of agricultural economics

(Angus and Katona, 1953, p. 15).

Research Locale

This study was conducted inside the campus of Gensantos Foundation

College Incorporated, General Santos City. This institution was selected because

of the standardized performance of its employees. The research focuses in

determining the impact of fiscal policy of GFI to the job performance of its

employees.

As per CHED mandate, Gensantos Foundation College, Incorporated is a

higher education institution duly authorized by the commission to offer courses

for the students relevant to the needs of the community as well as for the

professional development of its employees.

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of the study are the employees of Gensantos Foundation

College Incorporated. The respondents will answer the questionnaire form given

by the researcher to know the impact of fiscal policy of GFI to the job

performance of its employees.

These respondents are those who are capable of answering the following

questions. The respondents were asked kindly by the researchers to answer the

survey questionnaire form.

There will be forty-five (45) employees comprising 30% of the total

population of the institution as mentioned in the scope and delimitation of this

study. Simple random sampling will also be utilized in considering the population

samples of the study.

Data Gathering Instruments

The researchers will use a self-constructed questionnaire consisted of

three different parts. The first part is the demographic profile of the respondents

which include Age, Gender, Civil status, Educational attainment, and

position/designation. The second part is, what are the fiscal policies implemented

by GFI and their rating? The third is the impact of fiscal policy of GFI to the job

performance of its employees in term of: Teaching, Punctuality, and salary.

These questions were formulated by the researchers to gather information from

the respondents.

For the validity of research instrument, the researchers constructed the

questionnaire and submit it to the instructor for any correction and validation.

Instruments refer to the measurement device used by the researchers such as

(survey, questionnaire form, etc.)

Finally to maintain the reliability of the research instruments, the research

instruments is determined through measuring the same variables at different time

that has similar result

Data Gathering Procedure

After the correction and validation the researchers distribute the

questionnaire form to the respondents. After retrieving the questionnaires the

researchers tallied the data collected for statistical analysis. The respondents are

officially employed in GenSantos Foundation College Incorporated.

The researchers will follow the methodology of collecting information

based on the standards provided by the thesis adviser. As such, the researchers

will follow the rule of providing letter of permission to be submitted to the school.

With due respect, this permission letter will be duly signed by the thesis adviser

for formality sake.

As approval will be given by the administration to the researchers, the

researchers will now conduct the said study to the owners at their own

convenience.

Survey questionnaire will be distributed to the respondents since they will

be the primary sources of the information need for the study to be completed. All

information which will be collected from them will be collated and be given with

interpretations based on the statistical treatment of suggested for the study. The

researchers will present all the data descriptively, graphical and tabular. All these

will be presented in the next chapter of the research.

Statistical Treatment

Statistical tool for this study will be the following:

For SOP 1, 2 and 3

a. P = f/n x 100

Where:

P - percentage (to be computed)

F - frequency of responses in a single item

N - total number of respondents (7 respondents)

100 - where the quotient is to be multiplied to get the percentage

For SOP 4:

B. Likert Scale Analysis will be utilized by the researchers for SOP number 3 thus

determining the level of marketability of the street food cart business. For this

study, 5-point scale will be utilized using the following description (Research

Gate, 2017):

5- Outstanding

4- Very Satisfactory

3- Satisfactory

2- Fair

1- Poor

For SOP 5

C. Pearson R. Correlation will be utilized as expressed in the formula:
