My trip to Dapitan City was great. I finally saw the Rizal Park,
Dakak resort--- on my day trip , the St James church and the
map of Mindanao. Not to mentioned the side trip we made to
see Dipolog City. The peacefulness of Dapitan is the best
compliment I can get from the busy Cebu City. I really enjoy my
stay in Dapitan including my lodging at Monina's Pension House
which was a plus. My overall vacation in Dapitan City was
memorable, enjoyable and satisfying.

THE SAFE PLACE TO MEET THE MOTHER OF MY SON AND MY

SON HIMSELF. THEY TRAVEL FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF
MINDANAO TO DAPITAN , JUST TO MEET ME THERE . THINK THIS
IS THE PLACE TO BE, CONSIDERING THE ON ONGOING PROBLEM
THAT IS HAPPENING IN MINDANAO. ANYWAY I STAYED AT
MONINA PENSION HOUSE FOR 3 NITES. SECURED, AFFORDABLE
AND FRIENDLY STAFF. I DIDNT HAVE TO GO OUT AND RENT
COMPUTER. THIS PLACE HAS A FREE WIFI. IN THE PRIVACY OF
MY ROOM I USE THE WIFI/HOT SPOT. MY BOY REALLY ENJOY
THE GAMES AND RIDES THEY HAVE AT GLORIA DE DAPITAN. MY
DAY TRIP TO DAKAK WAS ALSO A MARVELOUS EXPERIENCE.
THANK YOU MONINA PENSION HOUSE FOR ALL THE
HOSPITALITY YOU EXTENDED TO ME AND MY MINDANAO
FAMILY THAT CAME OVER TO MEET ME.

is it normal for you to encounter freaky pictures at the house of

rizal? I took a photo when I visited there and i think this might
interest you.... Somebody looked like rizal...at the right most
corner....he looks like he is sweeping the floor...i noticed her
hairstyle...looks like jose rizal...though there's a light that i can
hardly recognize his face...if you want to see the picture, i am
willing to share this to you...just email me...tnx

I enjoyed My stay in Dapitan City. The people of the Dapitan

City and my wife relatives had welcome me, on my stay there.
My stay at Monina's Pension House reflects the overall
authenticity of Dapitan Hospitality. The WIFI Internet they have
at Monina Pension House is what attracts me to stay at this
place. This place deserves my unsolicited recommendations to
the would be Travelers of Dapitan City. Keep up the good work

On September 21, 1892 the mail boat Butuan was approaching

the town of Dapitan carrying a Lottery ticket No. 9736 jointly
owned by Captain Carnicero, Dr. Rizal and Francisco Equilior
(Spanish resident of Dipolog, a neighboring town of Dapitan)
won the second prize of P20,000 in the government-owned
Manila Lottery. Rizal's share of the winning lottery ticket was
P6,200, He gave P2,000 to his father and P200 to his friend
Basa in Hong Kong and the rest he invested well by purchasing
agricultural lands along the coast of Talisay about one
kilometer away from Dapitan. Rizal's winning in the Manila
Lottery reveals an aspect of his lighter side. He never drank
hard liquor and never smoked but he was a lottery addict.

On December 29, 1896, Rizal is found guilty of establishing

illegal organizations and of supporting and inciting to the crime
of rebellion, and is condemned to death. He spends his last 24
hours in his death cell where he receives members of his family
and writes his letter of farewelle first one to his "second
brother ' Ferdinand Blumentritt. Rizal gives his sister, Trinidad,
an old petroleum lamp and whispers to her in English that there
is something inside the lamp. Thus is Rizal's famous farewell
poem "Ultimo Adios", (Last Farewell) is found. This poem has so
far been translated into more than 100 languages. A new
German version by the Austrian, Dr. Wilhelm Muster, was made
in December 1982 through the initiative of the Austrian
Ambassador, Dr. Friedrich Posch and was presented to the
National Historical Institute in a ceremony in Fort Santiago

The Last Poem Farewell, my adored Land, region of the sun

caressed, Pearl of the Orient Sea, our Eden lost, With gladness I
give you my Life, sad and repressed; And were it more brilliant,
more fresh and at its best, I would still give it to you for your
welfare at most. On the fields of battle, in the fury of fight,
Others give you their lives without pain or hesitancy, The place
does not matter: cypress laurel, lily white, Scaffold, open field,
conflict or martyrdom's site, It is the same if asked by home
and Country. I die as I see tints on the sky b'gin to show And at
last announce the day, after a gloomy night; If you need a hue
to dye your matutinal glow, Pour my blood and at the right
moment spread it so, And gild it with a reflection of your
nascent light! My dreams, when scarcely a lad adolescent, My
dreams when already a youth, full of vigor to attain, Were to
see you, gem of the sea of the Orient, Your dark eyes dry,
smooth brow held to a high plane Without frown, without
wrinkles and of shame without stain. My life's fancy, my ardent,
passionate desire, Hail! Cries out the soul to you, that will soon
part from thee; Hail! How sweet 'tis to fall that fullness you
may acquire; To die to give you life, 'neath your skies to expire,
And in your mystic land to sleep through eternity! If over my
tomb some day, you would see blow, A simple humble flow'r
amidst thick grasses, Bring it up to your lips and kiss my soul
so, And under the cold tomb, I may feel on my brow, Warmth of
your breath, a whiff of your tenderness. Let the moon with soft,
gentle light me descry, Let the dawn send forth its fleeting,
brilliant light, In murmurs grave allow the wind to sigh, And
should a bird descend on my cross and alight, Let the bird
intone a song of peace o'er my site. Let the burning sun the
raindrops vaporize And with my clamor behind return pure to
the sky; Let a friend shed tears over my early demise; And on
quiet afternoons when one prays for me on high, Pray too, oh,
my Motherland, that in God may rest I. Pray thee for all the
hapless who have died, For all those who unequalled torments
have undergone; For our poor mothers who in bitterness have
cried; For orphans, widows and captives to tortures were shied,
And pray too that you may see your own redemption. And when
the dark night wraps the cemet'ry And only the dead to vigil
there are left alone, Don't disturb their repose, don't disturb
the mystery: If you hear the sounds of cittern or psaltery, It is I,
dear Country, who, a song t'you intone. And when my grave by
all is no more remembered, With neither cross nor stone to
mark its place, Let it be plowed by man, with spade let it be
scattered And my ashes ere to nothingness are restored, Let
them turn to dust to cover your earthly space. Then it doesn't
matter that you should forget me: Your atmosphere, your skies,
your vales I'll sweep; Vibrant and clear note to your ears I shall
be: Aroma, light, hues, murmur, song, moanings deep,
Constantly repeating the essence of the faith I keep. My
idolized Country, for whom I most gravely pine, Dear
Philippines, to my last goodbye, oh, harken There I leave all:
my parents, loves of mine, I'll go where there are no slaves,
tyrants or hangmen Where faith does not kill and where God
alone does reign. Farewell, parents, brothers, beloved by me,
Friends of my childhood, in the home distressed; Give thanks
that now I rest from the wearisome day; Farewell, sweet
stranger, my friend, who brightened my way; Farewell, to all I
love. To die is to rest.

I recently visited my wife family in Dipolog City, so much

festivities was going on in the City. After searching the internet
for the availability of lodging, I decided to stay in Dapitan City,
the neighboring historical City. I stayed at Monina Pension
House located on Sunset Boulevard. Very secured Place.,
affordable, clean, feel at home atmosphere , FREE WIFI
INTERNET --- wow this is really a plus --- for free. Every penny is
worth it , for staying at this place. Breakfast and Dinner are
affordable. Also a walking distance from this place is the local
restaurant that serves Local Sea Foods. I also visited the Mini
Mall called Gloria de Dapitan next to the restaurant. I never
expected the serenity, calmness and the friendly atmosphere of
this town. I salute the Management and the owner of this place
for preserving the local ambiance that connects to the western
visitor like me. Indeed, my stay at Dapitan City is a
therapeutics healing to the calm atmosphere I was searching
for.

Good News For Dapitan City "President Gloria Macapagal-

Arroyo recently signed the conversion of Pulauan Port in
Dapitan City into Port Management Office (PMO). She added
"the Pulauan port deserves the honor to become a PMO
because I'm also a witness to the increasing traffic at the port."
Making the port a PMO gives it autonomy and thus allows it to
have its own budget. It also means independence from the
administrative jurisdiction of the Philippine Ports Authority
(PPA) in Cagayan de Oro City." This will open up more
opportunity for the City of Dapitan.

Indeed a big leap of tourism traffic in Dapitan City. This was

noted by most of the tourism publication all over the
philippines: The Effect of RORO-- Strong Republic Nautical
Highway Transport: "A 46 percent decrease was also noted on
the freight and passenger cost of electronics from Manila to
Cebu; motorcycle from Manila to Dumaguete by 47 percent; and
passengers from Batangas to Calapan by 32 percent. The
tourism industry has directly benefited as well from the Strong
Republic Nautical HIghway, "compared to 2003 (when the
Strong Republic Nautical Highway, inaugurated) the latest
statistics indicates: tourists bound for Boracay grew more than
50 percent, Iloilo by 30 percent, Bacolod by 15 percent, and
Dapitan by 200 percent." THe system has also slashed the
travel time from Mindanao to Luzon from 36 hours to 24 hours."
I can actually Drive all the way to Dapitan from Manila in 24
hours? Wow I will be trying this route with my family this
summer.

Wow DAPITAN CITY IS GETTING POPULAR for the tourist. I am
convinced to visit DAPITAN CITY as soon as I have the time. An
article recently published . "In Dapitan, which I said in the
beginning we were practically forcing shipping lines to ply that
route, now has nine trips a day. Tourism last year went up by a
whopping 200 percent coming through the RO-RO. These are
just a couple of examples to say that the ultimate beneficiaries
of RO-RO are the people. Indeed, RO-RO is the fulfillment of our
vision based on a strong and growing economy. It is the
fulfillment of one of the ten points in my ten-point program
that I announced in 2004 that we would link the whole country
by transportation and digital infrastructure. So to all
stakeholders today, let us continue to flesh out our vision. Let
us continue to keep our sleeves rolled up. Let us continue to
join hands. And to the rest of the Philippines -- "Biyahe na,
Sakay na!" Wow 200% tourism increase in "DAPITAN CITY" ---
There must be something exciting at this place. I will be
checking the internet for Pension House's at this place, then I
will pack my bag and visit this place.

I am of course a Filipino with a western family name due to

marriage. My maiden name is Villareal, very Spanish due to our
history. First of all I like to say thank you for sharing those
wonderful photos of Rizal's life in Dapitan, Zamboanga,
Minadanao, Philippines. It was very nostalgic to see the photos
as well as educational and informative of the kind of life Rizal
and the people had at that particular time. I enjoyed it
tremendously and it made me think how great a person he was
and what a waste of young life, such talents, such skill
prematurely ended due to the injustices and unfairness of the
Spanish leaders in his time. I am a great admirer of Jose Rizal
and also to the many Filipinos who had suffered and died to
give us the freedom we now enjoy. Again, thank you for sharing
your wonderful photos to a lot of Filipinos.

Mindanao, I used it at Monina's Pension House, they have a free

the City. The map of Mindanao, hand made. Grass grows in the
map showing the whole island of Mindanao. The highlightof it
all is the Jose Rizal Park, Rizal did a good job of building
Dapitan City a remarkable place to be. Thanks to the staff of

I have been trying to find a place where I can re-tell my great

experienced about this city. Dapitan City is indeed a shrine
place. People there are so wonderful and very friendly. A year
ago I visited Dapitan City. I was there to meet my fiancee who
was from Zamboanga City. It was just the right place to meet
her at that time. Anyway I was there for 4 nites. At first I
stayed in Dipolog. But because of the noise and pollution I
decided to see if there was any other place in the vicinity
where I can stay. I heard from few people at the restaurant that
Dapitan is more quiter with calm atmosphere. I didnt know
anything about this place. I checked the internet about this
place accomodations, if there any thing there for me. First
thing i saw was, the MONINA PENSION HOUSE. I didnt even
know that they are well connected with the European,
Australian and American Hostel's listings --- Since im from
Europe I decided to see if this was the place I should be staying
in. I checked the place and they have 2 places in town location.
I like the mid-town location since its accessable to all places.
The place is terrific, all the western amenities is there, except
the wireless internet. I was told that they were going to retrofit
the place with WIFI/HOT SPOT down the road. Anyway the Rizal
Park is also a great place to be. Very Quite and full of historical
display. I will be going back to Dapitan City to finally tie the
knot with my fiancee. Cheers to the DAPITANON that i know
and became my friends during my stay there. By the way
Maribel of Monina Pension House --- is just a terrific lady with
full of vibrant energy and public relations.

Rizal is a great man. He remind me of George Washington of
America. I was completely lured to see more of this beautiful
place they call Dapitan City. I stayed 2 nights at Monina
Pension House located in the center of the city. It was
affordable place with many amenities. I love it there. I will go

Dapitan City, what a wonderful place to be, This place is full of

tranquility and peace. I visited the Rizal Park, this place was
our next destination after me and my Filipino Hubby visited
Calamba Laguna, luneta park in manila and the Fort Santiago,
Manila. We also visited the Sr Santiago Church in Dapitan. The
3 days and 2 nite stay at Monina Pension House is of great
importance to us. This place is cheap with superb western
amenities. I thank you Monina Pension House for the great
hospitality you extended to me and my husband Troy. My
greetings and thanks to Maribel and her staff. Dapitan City is a
place to be for the people who loves History, my husband was a
fan of Dr. Jose Rizal. Im already beginning to learn more about
this man of peace, designated by Filipinos as their national
Hero.

Hello, My greetings to all the Dapitanons. I visited Dapitan City

earlier this year. The place has plenty of stories to tell, mostly
about Dr. Jose Rizal--- tHE RIZAL PARK AND AL OTHER PLACES
OF THIS CITY . I visited this place on my way to meet my Girl
Friend who lives in Ozamis City. Coming back on my way to
Cebu, I spent 3 days exploring Dapitan and it's history. Im a
History buff, kind of person. I have to say that the folks from
this small town/city is reflective of the DAPITAN --- meaning to
invite, folks there are really hospitable. I stayed at MONINA
PENSION HOUSE ----- marvelous place to stay. The people there
are really hospitable and friendly. "NAGUSTOHAN NAKO ANG
ILANG LUGAR". I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO THE
WORLD TRAVELLERS, IT IS ONE OF THE HIDDEN
ACCOMODATION TREASURES OF THE TOWN AND OR CITY. KEEP
UP THE CLEAN, HOSPITALITY AND GOOD WORK MONINA
PENSION HOUSE.

I was traveling all over Philippines recently. On my way to

Cagayan De Oro City, I stopped over Dapitan City, I spend 4
days and 3 nights in Dapitan. Before I arrived in Dapitan I
checked the INTERNET GOOGLE SEARCH ENGINE for a PENSION
HOUSE availability. MONINA PENSION HOUSE CAME UP, I didnt
know what to expect from this place. Indeed the place is clean,
brand sparkling new and the people that works there are very
hospitable and can converse well in the English Dialect. When I
arrived in Dapitan I took a p.d.- cab ( they call it ) to get to the
Pension House. I mentioned to the cab driver if he knows
MONINA PENSION HOUSE, he seems to know it well. He asked
me if I want to go to the Building located in POTOL or the one
next to GLORIA DE DAPITAN by the BEACH. I told the him to
bring me to the one by the beach. What a place, for the next 2
days i was enjoying the serenity, beauty, historical, and the
scenic view of the 2 cities (dapitan and dipolog). During my
stay I visited the restaurant next to the mini mall Gloria De
Dapitan, I also enjoy the night time festivities they have at the
mall. I visited DAKAK RESORT PARK on my a day trip there. I
very much enjoy the beautiful scenery of DAKAK BEACH
RESORT and the amenities they offer to the visitors. My stay at
Moninas Pension House was really a great experienced. If I
have not stopped in Dapitan, I would not known the importance
of this place in the annals of the Philippine History. My over all
stay at Monina's Pension House is excellent=== 5 star, I WILL
GO BACK THERE AGAIN IF I GET BACK TO MINDANAO. The
Hospitality of Maribel and the people that works there, cannot
be measured by anything else. Thank You Monina Pension
House for making my stay over in Dapitan City memorable and
enjoyable.

I was searching in the internet for a place to stay in Dapitan, I

found the MONINA PENSION HOUSE. At first i wasnt sure if this
would be the place to stay there, i called the place directly and
immediately I can tell on the other side of the telephone line
that this place has the availability on the date i wanted. They
even gave me a discount on my over-all rate of my stay. I
stayed for 2 weeks in Dapitan City at the Monina Pension
House. I definately enjoy my stay at this place. Person in
charge at this place, Maribel has the Hospitality Characteristic
of a Filipina ( What I have read on the Filipino Hospitality ) My
stay at MONINA PENSION HOUSE was really great. The helper
they have at this place name GIGI went out of her way to make
my accomodation memorable and enjoyable for me and my my
fiance's family. I highly recomend this place to my fellow
AMERICAN who plans of visiting Dipolog/ Dapitan in the future.
One thing i like to say is the peaceful atmosphere of this place.
This part of Mindanao is peaceful than ever. I also enjoy my day
trip to DAKAK BEACH RESORT. The abundance of history of
DAPITAN CITY and the whole province of Zamboanga del Norte,
made me venture out to a different place and see it myself the
beutiful Zamboanga Del Norte Province. Last but not least, I
like to thank Maribel for having me taste the Local Delicacies
---- specially the RED CRABS. It is totally diffent from the Blue
Crabs of Virginia. THank you Maribel and your staff for the
Hospitality and the feel at home atmosphere I experience
during my stay. THANK YOU ! MR J. SMITH

I enjoy Dapitan City, It was My first time to visit the place. I

stayed at Monina Pension House==== wow this place rocks.
Maribel is the person who run the place, the 3 days stay at the
pension house is truly a great experienced. During my stay
they served the in house special sea food. The hospitality and
the quality of this place is really great compare to the other
places i visited in the philippines. Most of all the price is really
affordable. I do not hesitate to recomend the place to my fellow
traveller and adventurer. Mabuhay si Maribel.

I would like to suggest to list all the students of our hero Jose
Rizal. Since this is a legend, therefore we acknowledge also
