“Every Child is Special”

Descriptive of Disabilities:

Dyslexia- also know asreading disorder, is a characterized by trouble with reading

despite normal intelligence. Different people are affected to varying degrees. Problems may
include difficulties in spelling words reading quickly, writing words, “sounding out” words in
the head, pronouncing words when reading aloud and understanding what one reads.

Dyscalculia- is a learning disability in math. Kids with dyscalculia can have trouble with
quantities and concepts like bigger and smaller. They may also struggle with math symbols and
more complex math. Having dyscalculia doesn’t mean kids aren’t smart. But they may have a
hard time applying what they know to solve math problems.

Dysgraphia- refers to a specific set of writing challenges, like handwriting, typing, and
spelling. But when a child is having a trouble in expressing themselves in writing isn’t part of
dysgraphia.

Behavior Modications:

Ishaan Awasthi is an eight-year-old child whose world is filled with wonders that no one
else seems to appreciate; colours, fish, dogs and kites are just not important in the world of
adults, who are much more interested in things like homework, marks and neatness. And Ishaan
just cannot seem to get anything right in class. When he gets into far more trouble than his
parents can handle, he is packed off to a boarding school to 'be disciplined'. Things are no
different at his new school, and Ishaan has to contend with the added trauma of separation from
his family. One day a new art teacher bursts onto the scene, Ram Shankar Nikumbh, who infects
the students with joy and optimism. He breaks all the rules of 'how things are done' by asking
them to think, dream and imagine, and all the children respond with enthusiasm, all except
Ishaan. Nikumbh soon realizes that Ishaan is very unhappy, and he sets out to discover why.
With time, patience and care, he ultimately helps Ishaan find himself. Nikumbh helped the kid
read and write properly and they made a great bond together.
Brief Summary:

Every child is special is one –heart touching movie. Even I don’t know how to unlove
this movie and I must say it is worth watching. Ishaan Nandkinshore Awasthi is an eight-year-
old boy. He dislikes school and he fails every exam and tests because he finds his subjects
difficult. He has a brother, Yohaan, whose very smart, a scholar and an athlete. His father,
Nandkishore Awasthi, whose a successful executive and expects his children to excel in
everything. Lastly, her mother, housewife Maya Awasthi, is frustated by her inability to teach
her son. But despite all, Ishaan’s inner world is rich with wonders that elders can’t appreciate.
After his parents saw his poor grades in his report card, Mr. Awasthi decided to bring Ishaan into
a boarding school. There he experiences fear and depression but he met a new friend, Rajan who
is physically disabled and one of the top students in their class. Everything became worst until he
met a new art teacher, Ram Shankar Nikumbh. He is also an instructor in Tulips School for
children with disabilities. He has this different style of teaching and he also observed Ishaan’s
unhappiness. When he saw Ishaan’s work in his notebook, he concluded that Ishaan is suffering
from his dyslexia. He then went to Ishaan’s parents and told them about his observation. Ram
was really stunned by the greatness of the artworks of Ishaan. But Ishaan’s father doubts that his
explanation is just an excuse of Ishaan’s poor performance in school. When the class started, he
brings up his topic about famous people who has [Link] the class, when the students
were leaving, Nikumbh asked Ishaan to stay and to tell him that he too is experiencing the
difficulties in dyslexia. After that he went to the principal and volunteered to be Ishaan’s tutor.
He wants to improve Ishaan’s writing and reading skills so he used the techniques developed by
dyslexia specialists. Ishaan did really improved!

Conclusions:

The story tell us that a child is a child whoever they are they should be accepted. Never
reject them nor make them feel that they are worthless for it brings them too much frustration
that leads to depression. They should be care and given much attention. We all have incapability
but despite of it we still have hidden talent which will reveal sooner or later by the help of those
people around us. That is why we should apply this sayings in our life don’t judge the book by its
cover, look inside and discover. Another is “no one is an island”, we cannot live alone; we need
someone by our side who will guide us, nurture us and someone who will help us to discover
things which we cannot do alone and someone who will accept us.
Message to SPED teachers:

For all Special Education Teachers, Thank you for not letting the special children to be
out of the world. Thank you for the kindness that you give to them and for being a patient
person. You also give them a second home, guardians and a loving parent to them. It is not easy
for all of you to encourage and show the hidden capabilities and abilities of those persons with
special needs, but you still gave your unconditional love and care for them. I know God doesn’t
give special kids to special parents. He takes ordinary, imperfect people, and gifts them with his
greatest treasures. And there in, he creates special parents, and that is you. Thank you.
