A Singapore-flagged bulker and a Japan-flagged bulker collided on December 30, with the former reporting damage to its hull and spilling about nine tonnes of fuel oil. Both ships were in ‘stable condition’ and no injuries to crew were reported, according to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore
NINE tonnes of fuel oil were reportedly spilled into the Yangtze River in China on Monday after the Singapore-flagged panamax bulker Yangze 22 (IMO: 9958212) and the Japan-flagged capesize Vega Dream (IMO: 9532094) collided around 2200 hrs.
The spill was reported by Yangze, which also suffered damage to its hull, according to a statement from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.
“The Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration, together with several support craft deployed by Yangze 22’s company, are currently conducting clean-up of the fuel oil spilled,” the MPA said on Tuesday, adding that it was informed by the Shanghai MSA that the situation was “under control”.
“Both Yangze 22 and Vega Dream are in stable condition and no injuries to the crew are reported on both vessels.”
The MPA said it would investigate the incident.
