Coleen Rooney reveals she felt 'ashamed' when Wayne showed off tattoo dedicated to her at party - and explains why she wasn't completely surprised by his petrol station proposal
Coleen Rooney has admitted she felt 'ashamed' when her husband Wayne showed off a tattoo dedicated to her at a party when they were teenagers.
The former footballer, who first met Coleen when they were just 12 years old, had revealed he got a secret tattoo of his wife's name to show he was 'committed' to her in the early days of their relationship.
But the I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! winner was initially not impressed by the act and felt embarrassed when Wayne showed off the ink at a friend's 18th birthday party.
This was not helped by the fact that she had to remind the ex-England captain on how to spell her name moments before he went ahead and got it engraved on his body for life.
Speaking on Sky Bet's Stick to Football podcast, Coleen said: 'We were going to a party as one of our friends was turning 18, who was a bit older than us.
'That day, I got a phone call, and it was his cousin who asked me if I spelled my name with one L or two L's. I said one L and asked why, and he said he was in the town with Wayne who was getting a tattoo!
'He walks into the party with his top off, showing everyone – I felt ashamed. He told me it was fine because we were going to be together forever.'
Wayne's romantic tendencies were also on display when he asked Coleen to marry him outside a petrol station in 2003.
Unfortunately for the former Manchester United star, the proposal did not come as a surprise to his future bride to be as 'he's not very good at keeping secrets'.

Recalling the events of that famous night, Coleen said: 'We were only 17, and we were going for a Chinese. I can't remember whether we were arguing or something, but I said that I didn't want to go for Chinese.
'So, we stopped at the petrol station, then he went in, came out, [got down on one knee] and said 'I was going to ask you when we were at the Chinese' – now I'm glad he never asked me when we were out for a Chinese!
'Then we went back to my mum's and had corned beef hash. He's not very good at keeping secrets, so I knew it was going to happen – I didn't think it would be then.'
Coleen has publicly discussed her husband's famous tattoo on a number of occasions in the last year.
Speaking on her Disney+ documentary, The Real Wagatha Story, which focuses on the explosive 'Wagatha Christie' court case but also reflects back on her romance with Wayne, she confirmed the location of the ink to be on his arm.
On the same show, Wayne was asked about the tattoo and explained: 'l knew Coleen was the girl who I wanted to marry, want to have kids with, wanted to spend the rest of my life with, I just knew that was meant to be, us being together. That was a feeling I had from a very young age.'
When producers asked Wayne to share his ink to the cameras, Wayne shook his head and joked: 'No, no.'
Coleen also brought up the tattoo whilst appearing as a contestant on last year's I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here.

Coleen also revealed in her explosive documentary that Wayne played a pivotal role in helping her expose Rebekah Vardy - even though he was completely oblivious to her super sleuthing ways
She told the campmates that despite Wayne being so sure of his love that he wanted a permanent tribute - he wasn't sure how to spell her name.
Elsewhere in the episode Coleen recalled 'getting embarrassed' when Wayne used to turn up at her school in a Bentley when he was playing for Everton.
She said: 'I was still at school when he was playing for Everton. I used to walk out and all the girls were going, 'Whose is that car there?'
'And he was in a Bentley and something else and there's Wayne in the passenger seat with his arm out and one of the players like Thomas Gravesen.'
She admitted: 'I just used to get embarrassed', before clarifying that the car wasn't his, 'he just used to get a lift home!'
Coleen also revealed in her explosive documentary that Wayne played a pivotal role in helping her expose Rebekah Vardy - even though he was completely oblivious to her super sleuthing ways.
The Wagatha Christie drama culminated in a court case last year when Rebekah took Coleen to the High Court for libel – and lost – after Coleen claimed in October 2019 that stories about her were being leaked to the press from Rebekah's social media account.
The story began when The Sun ran a number of fake articles about Coleen from September 2017 to October 2019, which came from Coleen's private Instagram.
The Liverpudlian star claimed she only shared the stories with Rebekah in a 'sting' operation, including claims that she travelled to Mexico to look into baby 'gender selection' treatment, a plan to revive her TV career and the flooding of her basement.
Explaining why she decided to film a docuseries about the ordeal, Coleen revealed that in order to 'move on' she had to 'tell the story in my own words', with the WAG tracking the story from 2017 when the first stories began to get leaked to their 2022 court trail.
