Yes, Thanksgiving has a huge, carb-loaded dinner, and the Fourth of July shows off your barbecuing skills, but what other occasion can you load your plate solely with snacks and appetizers other than Super Bowl Sunday? It’s like the ultimate girl dinner day. Because many of us associate our favorite NFL players with the teams they play for, we probably don’t think about the fact that the players love watching football as much as we do. Even if they don’t make it to the Super Bowl, players are likely going to be watching the big game—and, since it’s the off-season, a little cheat meal of pizza, wings, and Buffalo chicken dip can’t hurt. Take Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his brother, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, for example. In 2023, they made headlines as the first brothers to face off in a Super Bowl—but let’s not forget that the famous Super Bowl-winning duo haven’t made championship appearances every year since they were drafted. So, what does Super Bowl Sunday look like then? Well, we’d like to imagine they have a big Kelce family Super Bowl party with all the Kelce faves—like their mom, Donna; dad, Ed; Jason’s wife, Kylie; and, of course, Jason’s adorable three children, Wyatt, Elliotte, and Bennett. And, heck, why not throw Travis’ girlfriend, Taylor Swift, into the mix, too? While she didn’t confirm that’s what game day looks like today, Mama Kelce did tell Allrecipes what her boys loved to eat during the Super Bowl growing up. The Super Bowl Food Travis and Jason Kelce Love “We’re looking at a lot of dips—they always loved dips,” Donna said in an interview with Allrecipes about her partnership with Heluva Good! “Definitely a Tex Mex dip or something with a little bit of kick. Barbecued chicken…a lot of chips, [and] a lot of little finger foods.” The Tex Mex dip Mama Kelce is referring to is her seven-layer chip dip, which she says she's been "bringing to tailgates for years." There are, of course, a lot of ways to make Tex Mex/seven-layer dip with different ingredients. Our most popular Seven Layer Tex Mex Dip has refried beans, guacamole, cheese, tomatoes, olives, and a creamy taco-seasoned layer made with sour cream and mayonnaise. Gasp! If you listen to Travis and Jason’s podcast “New Heights,” you know there’s one food that Travis really hates: mayonnaise. “Egg whip? That s*** is so disgusting,” Travis said. So, of course, Mama Kelce has to use a different ingredient in her dip. Some recipes would substitute it with cream cheese, but Mama Kelce’s recipe actually cuts out the need for mayo, sour cream, and cream cheese altogether. Instead, she simply uses Heluva Good!’s Jalapeño Cheddar Dip. The dip adds a creamy layer—plus the kick she deems a must-have. And it cuts time because you don’t need to wait for your cream cheese to soften or mix anything together. In keeping with the spicy theme, Mama Kelce’s seven-layer dip also features jalapeños, pico de gallo, refried beans, black olives, sliced avocado, and cheese. Luckily for us dip—and Mama Kelce—fans, Heluva Good! is releasing a Big Game Countdown Calendar that features a variety of fun surprises for the seven days leading up to the Super Bowl, including Mama Kelce's seven-layer dip. Think a football Advent calendar but for Super Bowl snacks. What more could you ask for? The Big Game Countdown Calendar is available through a giveaway on Heluva Good!’s site. However, if you aren’t lucky enough to win one of the Mama Kelce-approved calendars, that’s okay because we have her seven-layer dip recipe to share.
