Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed

  • ½ cup water, or more as needed

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

  • ½ teaspoon dried basil

  • salt and ground black pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Place green beans in a microwave-safe glass dish. Add water, garlic, oil, basil, salt, and pepper and mix together. Cover the dish with a lid.

  2. Microwave on high power for 5 minutes.

  3. Check water level, adding more if needed, and stir green beans. Replace the lid and microwave until tender-crisp, 3 to 5 minutes more.

Cook's Notes:

Easily adaptable for stir-frying or stovetop steaming.

You can use dill or marjoram in place of basil. If using fresh herbs, be sure to add them towards the last couple minutes of cooking. Vary flavors by using different specialty oils.
