Leftovers after a big holiday meal are one of the best parts of the holidays. You cook up a storm for one day and eat for days after on that one meal. If you can eat them within a few days, it’s all good. But if the leftovers are piling up and you can’t eat them promptly, you’re often left with just two choices: let them go bad or freeze them

No one wants to waste food they paid good money for, especially during the holidays. With all the extra food for parties and dinners, there’s just not enough room in your freezer to hold all the leftovers in their bulky containers. Plus, if you don’t freeze them properly, freezer burn may set in before you can use them up.

Aldi just added an item to its Aldi Finds section (an aisle devoted to limited-time-only products) that can help with the leftover holiday food dilemma—a vacuum food sealer.

What Is a Vacuum Food Sealer?

Oxygen is an element that will accelerate food spoilage. A vacuum sealer sucks out the air surrounding food in a specially designed plastic bag and then seals the bag tight. When the process is over, the plastic bag will cling to the food and extend its freshness. A hard cheese will last in the refrigerator for 4 to 6 months if properly vacuum sealed. A semi-hard cheese will last for 1 to 2 months in the fridge. You can extend the freshness of meats, pasta, rice, snacks, vegetables, fruits, baked goods, and many other foods if you vacuum seal them.

When you’re at Aldi, picking up your favorite foods and strolling the Finds aisle, affectionately referred to as the “Aisle of Shame,” keep an eye out for the Ambiano Vacuum Food Sealer.

As long as supplies last, the super useful kitchen tool is $19.99. It vacuums and seals food then cuts the plastic bag, also called film, to the proper size. The sealer comes with film to get you started—the store sells extra film for $9.99 (the sealer can use other film brands, too).

When you have leftover Thanksgiving food (that you bought at Aldi for half price) and want to save it for later holiday festivities, you can do so easily with the vacuum sealer. You’ll save food and money, making it your holiday leftover hero.
