The government announced that SEEDA was due to close by 31 March 2012, along with the other RDAs (regional development agencies). According to SEEDA's website "Responsibility for economic development and regeneration in England is being passed onto successor bodies, including Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) and central Government departments".
It is the third largest region of England, with an area of 19,096km² (7,373 sq mi), and is also the most populous with a total population of over eight and a half million (2011). The headquarters for the region's governmental bodies are in Guildford, and the region contains eight cities: Brighton and Hove, Canterbury, Chichester, Oxford, Portsmouth, Southampton, Winchester and Chelmsford, though other major settlements include Reading and Milton Keynes. Its proximity to London and connections to several national motorways have led to south east England becoming an economic hub, with the largest economy in the country outside the capital. It is the location of Gatwick Airport, the UK's second-busiest airport, and its coastline along the English Channel provides numerous ferry crossings to mainland Europe.
An aid agency is an organisation dedicated to distributing aid. Many professional aid organisations exist, both within government (e.g. AusAID, USAID, DFID, EuropeAid, ECHO), between governments as multilateral donors (e.g. UNDP) and as private voluntary organizations or non-governmental organisations, (e.g. ActionAid, Ducere Foundation, Oxfam, World Vision). The International Committee of the Red Cross is the world’s oldest humanitarian organisation and is unique in being mandated by international treaty to uphold the Geneva Conventions.
Aid can be subdivided into two categories: humanitarian aid (emergency relief efforts, e.g. in response to natural disasters), and development aid (or foreign aid), aimed at helping countries to achieve long-term sustainable economic growth, with the aim of achieving poverty reduction. Some aid agencies carry out both kinds of aid (e.g. EcoCARE Pacific Trust and ADRA), whilst others specialise (e.g. Red Cross, humanitarian aid; War on Want, development aid).
The area now called England was first inhabited by modern humans during the Upper Palaeolithic period, but takes its name from the Angles, one of the Germanic tribes who settled during the 5th and 6th centuries. England became a unified state in the 10th century, and since the Age of Discovery, which began during the 15th century, has had a significant cultural and legal impact on the wider world. The English language, the Anglican Church, and English law – the basis for the common law legal systems of many other countries around the world – developed in England, and the country's parliamentary system of government has been widely adopted by other nations. The Industrial Revolution began in 18th-century England, transforming its society into the world's first industrialised nation.
The Anglo-Saxon mission began in the last decade of the 7th century in Frisia, whence, Benedict reminded the monks he urged to come to the continental missions, their forebears had come: "Take pity on them, for they themselves are now saying, 'We are of one blood and one bone with you.'" The missions, which drew down the energy and initiative of the English church, spread south and east from there. Almost immediately the Anglo-Saxon missionaries came in contact with the Pippinids, the new dominant family in Frankish territories. The earliest monastery founded by Anglo-Saxons on the continent is Willibrord's Abbey of Echternach (698), founded at a villa granted him by a daughter of Dagobert II. Pepin II, who wished to extend his influence in the Low Countries, granted free passage to Rome to Willibrord, to be consecrated Bishop of Frisia; Norman F. Cantor singles this out as the first joint project between Carolingians and the Papacy: "It set the pattern for their increasing association in the first half of the 8th century as a result of their joint support of the efforts of the Anglo-Saxon missionaries"

Discover South East England
This video gives an impression of South East England. If you want to visit England for a long weekend or you just want to see how the South East part of England looks like, this video is interesting for you.
Because we explored South East England in four days, we had to limit the trip to Kent and East Sussex. Kent is called ‘The garden of England’, because Kent is host to gentle hills, fertile farmland and cultivated country estates.

My personal 5 South England highlights:
1. Take the Euro Tunnel. It is rail tunnel between the United Kingdom (near Dover) and France (near Calais).
At its lowest point, you travel 115 m (380 ft) below the sea level!!
2. White Cliffs of Dover & Dover Castle
http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/dover-castle/
3. Eastbourne: Beachy Head Lighthouse & Birling Gap
4. Seven Sisters Cliffs & Cuckmere Haven
You need to see the famous Seven Sisters cliffs and the coastguard cottages, from Seaford Head across the River Cuckmere. They became famous through a couple of movies like Robin Hood (Prince of Thieves), and through the film Atonement where Robbie and Cecilia always wanted to live :)
5.World Heritage Site Stonehenge
The most important prehistoric monuments - Stonehenge.
It was built over 3500(!) years ago. It is assumed, that it was constructed from 3000 to 2000 BC. Nobody knows the meaning and purpose of it, which makes it somehow mystic - that's at least what I thought

Having visited all cities in England, I've put together a regional guide, ranking each and every one by house price from low to high. Here we take a look at South East England. The information presented comes from rightmove.co.uk and its data pertaining to sold property prices within the last 12 months, so bear in mind this is time-sensitive, but correct as of April 2024.
