- "Boom goes the detonite!"
- ―Languss Tuno
Detonite was the standard explosive substance in the Galactic Empire.
Description[]

The result of a detonite bomb
Detonite was a putty-like explosive which, by the time of the Galactic Civil War, had been developed into a fairly stable substance that would typically detonate only when charged with electricity, extreme radiation, or tremendous kinetic energy. After exceeding its shelf life of ten years, however, it could destabilize and subsequently explode much more easily. Detonite was commonly formed into small fist-sized cubes for sale and use, while very tiny detonite charges, sometimes known as "micronite," were also used in pyrotechnics and more precise engineering applications. Detonite could also be made into a gel used in the creation of demolition materials like detonite tape.[2]
History[]
- "Imperials don't appreciate subtlety. Use more detonite."
- ―A Rebel SpecForce platoon sergeant
During the reign of the Galactic Empire, detonite was the standard explosive charge used in the galaxy.[1] It was used for all sorts of high explosive applications, from military demolitions to civil engineering jobs. At that time, a fist-sized cube of the material cost 500 credits.[2]
Detonite was used in grenades, particularly the C-22 fragmentation grenade[4] and MM-40 thermal charge.[5] It also was formed into shaped charges, such as the Merr-Sonn Munitions Pre-shaped Detonite Charge; Merr-Sonn also infused plastic adhesive tape with detonite gel to create Flex-5 Detonite Tape.[2]
