The Ashiga Clan was a Melitto hive and criminal syndicate that ruled the planet Kijimi in the Mid Rim Territories. Coming to power during the High Republic Era, they continued to dominate the Kijimi underworld during the Imperial Era.
Organization[]
The Ashiga Clan was a powerful dynasty[2] with a strict code of honor and based around a hierarchical Melitto hive. With their entire worldview being about the survival of the collective,[3] individual clan members were willing to give their lives in the name of the whole, which, in the chaotic underworld, gave the Ashiga an advantage.[2] Everything and everyone was judged on their usefulness to the whole.[3] Major tenets within the Ashiga way of life were hierarchy and order.[2]
History[]
Early History[]
- "The Ashiga Clan's been running the underworld here for decades..."
- ―ND-5, to Kay Vess, regarding the Ashiga Clan's control over Kijimi
The Ashiga Clan was formed during the High Republic Era. The Clan was based on the world of Kijimi.[1] The Ashiga worked their way into every aspect of Kijimi's underworld, from smuggling to extortion or sabotage and even weapons manufacturing.[3] As such, the Ashiga Clan ruled over both the planet and its underworld for generations.[2]
Imperial Era[]
- "We don't need the Outer Rim. Our place is here!"
- ―Krisk Ashiga, to Queen Ashiga
The Melitto hive remained active during the Imperial Era.[1] By 3 ABY,[4] however, their control over Kijimi was starting to weaken.[2] The Ashiga Clan started to provide the Galactic Empire access to the planet and came into a partnership. for its valuable rhydonium mines in exchange for weapons contracts. The arrangement with the Empire was something that made Krisk Ashiga, the heiress of the Ashiga Clan hive and crime syndicate, question the leadership of her mother, Queen Ashiga. Krisk made a deal with Qi'ra, the leader of the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate, to dethrone her mother and assume leadership of the Ashiga Clan as the new queen. Crimson Dawn helped Krisk, as the change in leadership could help Crimson Dawn establish its control over Kijimi. In the power struggle between the Ashiga Clan and the Crimson Dawn, the Crimson Dawn stole a relic important to him. However, the relic would be recovered and delivered to Queen Ashiga by the criminal Kay Vess, who did this to try to free Ank Parako, who was being held by the Ashiga Clan because of a debt of millions of credits.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The Ashiga were specifically created for Star Wars Outlaws.[3] The clan was heavily influenced by Japanese culture, and the clan's outfits were inspired by Japanese kimonos.[5]
