"Where's your starfighter?"
"That thing ate it!"
―Mace Windu and Anakin Skywalker, during the Battle of Malastare[4]

Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker flew a Delta-7B Aethersprite-class light interceptor during the majority of the Clone Wars.[7]

History[]

Anakin Skywalker crashing his Delta-7B into several B1 battle droids

Early use[]

Following the Battle of Geonosis,[7] Jedi General Anakin Skywalker used the interceptor during a firefight in the Corvair sector. Skywalker then used it to land on Kudo III.[6] Skywalker flew his interceptor alongside Master Obi-Wan Kenobi's interceptor during the Battle of Cristophsis.[7]

Battle of Bothawui[]

Skywalker used his interceptor during the Battle of Bothawui against General Grievous's fleet. Skywalker led Gold Squadron and attempted to pursue Grievous' fighter, the Soulless One. Unfortunately, the interceptor was damaged by debris from the ships, and a sudden explosion knocked Skywalker unconscious. Skywalker was rescued by Captain Rex, however, R2-D2 was left with the interceptor in the asteroid field among battle debris. The fighter was scavenged by Gha Nachkt's ship, the Vulture's Claw, who stole R2.[8]

Mission to sweep outer corridor space[]

The interceptor was recovered and took on a new astromech, R3-S6. As Skywalker took the interceptor to search for a separatist spy station,[8] R3, in reality a separatist spy,[9] activated the interceptor's tracking device. Grievous arrived and attacked Skywalker's interceptor. Skywalker attempted to escape but R3 disabled the interceptor's weapons. Skywalker, R3 and the interceptor were then rescued by his apprentice Ahsoka Tano and the Twilight.[8]

Mission to Skytop Station[]

Skywalker brought his interceptor with him as he hunted for Skytop Station. Upon arriving at the station, Skywalker, Tano, Captain Rex and a squad of clone troopers jumped out of the Twilight to land on the base, leaving the starfighter onboard. Skywalker would later use the interceptor to rescue R2 from the falling station.[9]

Battle of Ryloth[]

Skywalker flew in his starfighter, alongside Tano who was flying in her own Delta-7B, in a campaign to destroy Hyena-class droid fighter/bombers which were targeting populated villages across the planet. Skywalker and Tano destroyed the last of them before they bombed the capital city of Lessu.[10]

Battle of Malastare[]

After the detonation of the electro-proton bomb, Mace Windu searched for survivors who had fell in a sinkhole created by the blast. After finding them, Windu got a bad feeling and contacted Skywalker to come down there. Skywalker flew his interceptor into the crater, only to be attacked by the reawakened Zillo Beast. The beast slashed the fighter's port-side wing with its tail, forcing Skywalker to crash-land into the side of the sinkhole. Skywalker and R2-D2 managed to escape before the Zillo Beast crushed his starfighter with its giant foot.[4]

Sabotage of the Endurance[]

Skywalker used his Delta-7B to flee the Endurance as it began to fall into Vanqor's atmosphere as a result of Boba Fett's sabotage. Clone Cadet Sergeant Crasher contacted him and Windu, who was flying his own Delta-7B, that one of the escape pods containing cadets had gone missing. Unbeknownst to them, it was the pod that Fett was using to make his escape. Skywalker and Windu managed to find the pod and recover the missing cadets.[11]

Mission to Vanqor[]

Shortly after the Endurance crash-landed on Vanqor, Skywalker and Windu flew their Delta-7Bs to search for survivors on the planet's surface. While there, they told R2-D2 and R8-B7 to search for survivors while they would head up to the bridge to find Admiral Kilian and Commander Ponds, who were onboard when the ship crashed. However, when they got there, a bomb planted in a Mandalorian helmet exploded, collapsing the bridge on top of Skywalker and Windu. Skywalker got R2 to go back to the starfighters and call the Jedi Temple for help. On the way to the starfighter, R2 was ambushed by a gundark. However, using quick thinking, he was able to attach it, via cable, to Skywalker's fighter and activated the ship's engines, crashing it some miles away and killing the gundark in the process. R2 would use Windu's starfighter to flee Vanqor and get help.[5]

Battle of Kamino[]

When General Grievous's fleet arrived at Kamino, Skywalker used his Delta-7B to lead fighter squadrons against the fleet, along with Broadside. As Grievous began sacrificing the larger transports to protect his command ship, debris from the ships fell into orbit and landed in Kamino's oceans. Obi-Wan Kenobi, who was in Tipoca City, suspected that the droids were up to something and investigated the fallen debris, only to find aqua droids using it to assemble assault craft for an underwater assault on the city. Kenobi quickly called Skywalker back to the planet's surface.[12]

Battle of Sullust[]

Skywalker flew his starfighter alongside his master Obi-Wan Kenobi, who flew his own Delta-7B, in the Battle of Sullust. While Kenobi was pursued by Assaj Ventress, who had entered the battle in her Ginivex-class fanblade starfighter, Skywalker was pursued by two groups of droid tri-fighters, which had split up to take him down. Skywalker lured both groups towards a Recusant-class light destroyer and tricked them into colliding with each other, destroying both groups simultaneously. He then pursued Ventress, who had damaged Kenobi's starfighter, and shot down her fighter. Kenobi crash-landed in the hangar of the Separatist command ship and Skywalker followed him inside. After duelling Ventress, the two escaped the flagship, which had been ordered to be destroyed by Count Dooku.[13]

Later use[]

Skywalker and Tano flew their Delta-7Bs to Plop Dribble's at the spaceport on Stobar. They had intended to rendezvous with their cruiser, but Skywalker was hungry and had grown tired of government rations. Nevertheless, they witnessed the aftermath of events after Savage Opress assaulted one of the waitresses working at the diner.[14]

During the Onderonian Civil War, Skywalker flew his Delta-7B to Florrum to convince Hondo Ohnaka to deliver several rocket launchers to the rebels, allowing them to destroy the new HMP droid gunships.[15]

By the time of the Battle of Cato Neimoidia, Skywalker had ceased to use his Delta-7B and switched to an Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptor.[16]

Crew[]

The starfighter was piloted by Anakin Skywalker, who also functioned as its captain. Skywalker‘s astromech droid R2-D2 functioned as the ship’s navigator and repairer should it be damaged in open combat.[7]

Behind the scenes[]

Anakin Skywalker’s Delta-7B Aethersprite-class light interceptor first appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars film.[7]
