"Is your droid all right?"
"He's fine. But my fighter is sitting about five meters off the ground, wedged vertically between three trees. Not sure how I'm going to get it out without setting the forest on fire."
―Thrawn and Anakin Skywalker, on the latter's Eta-2 Actis[12]

During the late Clone Wars, the Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker flew an Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptor. Anakin Skywalker piloted the interceptor during a mission to rescue Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine during the Battle of Coruscant. The starfighter was destroyed aboard the Separatist flagship Invisible Hand.

History[]

Introduction[]

By 19 BBY, Kuat Systems Engineering had introduced the Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptor as a successor to the Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptor and its Delta-7B variant.[15] Replacing his Delta-7B,[16] Anakin Skywalker was one of the first Jedi to make use of the new starfighter and used it extensively during the late Clone Wars. Like he did with his Delta-7B, painted it with a distinctive bright yellow colour scheme, which allegedly was a tribute to the Podracer he had used to win the Boonta Eve Classic when he was a child.[15]

Battle of Cato Neimoidia[]

Skywalker flew his first Eta-2 at the Battle of Cato Neimoidia, alongside his padawan Ahsoka Tano who flew in her own Eta-2. During the battle, a discord missile, deployed by a droid tri-fighter, released a swarm of Pistoeka sabotage droids which latched onto his fighter and disabled it, causing him to lose consciousness. Tano ordered R2-D2 to land the ship on a nearby mountain plain, so that she could jump from her starfighter to rescue him. Tano succeeded just as Skywalker's starfighter went over the cliff to its destruction, but not before R2 escaped.[11] The Eta-2 was recovered and repaired.[16]

Mission to Batuu[]

After receiving a message that Padmé Amidala had gone missing and that her ship had been found on Batuu, Skywalker would fly a new Eta-2, along with R2-D2, to find her. After finding the ship at the Black Spire Outpost, Skywalker and Mitth'raw'nuruodo, simply known as Thrawn, came up with a plan to capture an assailant. Skywalker took another assailant's body and pretended to have suffered engine damage to his Eta-2. After landing, he was attacked by an Assassin droid but managed to destroy it. Thrawn would capture the assailant and found his freighter, which belonged to the Separatists.[12]

Destruction of the Separatist supply storage base[]

When the Jedi Order received a tip about the location of a Separatist supply storage base in the interior of an asteroid, Masters Obi-Wan Kenobi and Quinlan Vos requested for Skywalker and another Jedi Knight named Akar-Deshu to accompany them in seizing the base and its supplies. The four Jedi flew to the base in their Eta-2's and engaged six vulture droids defending it. Skywalker, Kenobi and Vos landed their starfighters at the base, while Desh returned to their Arquitens-class light cruiser to bring reinforcements.[17]

Destruction of the Vanqor listening station[]

After their failure to extract the supplies at the storage base, the Jedi High Council sent Vos, accompanied by Skywalker and Kenobi, to lead an operation to destroy a Separatist listening post on the planet Vanqor. The three flew in their Eta-2s, alongside twenty-four Aggressive ReConnaissance-170 starfighters. Upon arriving at the facility, they discovered it to be abandoned, as Count Dooku had evacuated all personnel before they had arrived. Unbeknownst to the Jedi, Vos had leaked information about the operation to Dooku, as part of his plan to work as a double agent in order to reach Darth Sidious and destroy the Sith once and for all.[17]

Battle of Anaxes[]

Skywalker flew his Eta-2 in the Battle of Anaxes, where he would help to contain the droid invasion. The Separatists would eventually gain the upper hand, as a result of Admiral Trench's access to a stolen algorithm extracted from Clone trooper Echo, forcing Skywalker and the other Republic forces to call on Clone Force 99.[14]

Battle of Coruscant[]

After Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine had been kidnapped during the Battle of Coruscant, Skywalker flew in his Eta-2 to rescue him, alongside his master Obi-Wan Kenobi who flew in his own Eta-2. During the battle, a vulture droid fired four discord missiles at Skywalker and Kenobi. To shake off the two missiles following him, Skywalker rolled his starfighter continuously, causing the missiles to collide with each other. However, the missiles tailing Kenobi released a swarm of buzz droids that latched onto his starfighter and began shutting down its systems. Skywalker attempted to shoot the droids off Kenobi's starfighter, but ended up blowing off his port-side s-foil, much to Kenobi's displeasure. Skywalker then tried ramming into him to destroy the remaining droids and succeeded. However, one crawled onto his own starfighter. R2-D2 manged to destroy the last droid by electrocuting its central photoreceptor. Skywalker used the starfighter's ion cannons to disable the Invisible Hand's shields, and the pair crash-landed inside the dreadnought's hangar bay. The starfighter was destroyed when the Invisible Hand's aft section, containing the hangar, broke off from the front upon entry into Coruscant's atmosphere due to the damage it had sustained in the battle.[3]

Upon becoming Darth Vader, Skywalker would begin using a green Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptor, to replace the one he lost in the Battle of Coruscant.[3]

Crew[]

The starfighter was piloted by Anakin Skywalker, who also functioned as its captain. Skywalker‘s astromech droid R2-D2 functioned as the ship’s navigator and repairer should it be damaged in open combat.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

Anakin Skywalker's Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptor first appeared in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.[3]
