Character

Sleepy-Time (known as a Sleepy-Time Robot on the sign where they are introduced) is a robot who appears as an enemy in the video games Battle for Bikini Bottom and Battle for Bikini Bottom: Rehydrated. It first appears in the Rock Bottom level, where it is seen attacking a Rock Bottom citizen.

Description[]

Sleepy-Time is a large, sleepy robot with metallic bodies and red arms. They have a panel on their chest with several buttons on it, three on top of each other in blue, green and red, and another red button next to them. They cast a light around their personal space. This light turns red as the player approaches it. In their awake form, Sleepy-Times are revealed to have green eyes shaped like hexagons; these eyes are red in the remake, but turn green when one calms down.

In Rehydrated, their eyes are rounder and they have a handle around their necks, similar to a bucket. The panel on their chest now have a plug below the red button and a gauge next to them in place of the three buttons.

Abilities[]

  • Laser beam
  • Finger-painting

Role in game[]

Console release[]

Sleepy-Times are first encountered at the beginning of the Rock Bottom level and are among the most difficult robots to deal with in the game due to their battle mechanics.

There are many ways to deal with a Sleepy-Time but the most common way is to sneak by them using SpongeBob. However, there are times when the player will run into two or three Sleepy-Times next to each other, where sneaking past undetected is impossible if the player attacks. A safe way to defeat a Sleepy-Time is to hit it from behind from a distance with SpongeBob's Bubble Bowl technique, but it must be out of the Sleepy-Time's light field or it will push the Bubble Bowl away.

Another way is to sneak up on it from behind and attack it from there. The player must be careful when doing the latter method if there are more than one, as the other Sleepy-Time(s) will wake up and fire a laser beam. An alternative safe way to defeat them easily is with the Cruise Bubble.

Patrick and Sandy cannot sneak past a Sleepy-Time undetected. If the player wants to defeat a Sleepy-Time as Patrick, they will have to throw a tiki, a watermelon, or another robot at the Sleepy-Time. If the player wants to defeat Sleepy-Time as Sandy, they will have to use her lasso attack.

Sleepy-Times will calm down when their foe gets out of the light field.

In the remake, Sleepy-Times launch their laser beam more quickly, meaning SpongeBob will immediately take damage when any part of his body hits the light field unless he was sneaking around.

They are found in Rock Bottom, the Krusty Krab in Bikini Bottom, the Kelp Forest, and SpongeBob's Dream. Destroying a Sleepy-Time will award the player 70 Shiny Objects.

PC release[]

Sleepy-Times appear in the mini-games 'Manhole Memory" and "Robot Alley."

Trivia[]

  • Checking the robot in the robot viewer makes it look like it is darker than the rest of the robots.
  • It is one of the robots that do not taunt the player right after the attack. However, it will taunt them when they are defeated by it.
  • The early design of the robot was used in the PC version of the game.
  • Sleepy-Times are shown in their awake form in the Police Station in the original game. However, in the remake, they appear sleeping.
