The Supa Supa no Mi is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that enables the user's body to gain characteristics of a steel blade to attack opponents with, making the user a Full-Body Bladed Human (全身刃物人間, Zenshin Hamono Ningen?, VIZ: "Human Sword").[2] It was eaten by former Baroque Works agent and current Cross Guild member Daz Bonez, also known by his alias Mr. 1.

The fruit's powers were first seen being used by Bonez to slice a wall he was about to hit, after he had been kicked by Mr. 2.[1] The fruit's powers were fully revealed during his battle with Roronoa Zoro.[2]

This fruit's abilities were duplicated in the Seraph S-Hawk, via a transfusion of Green Blood.[3]

Etymology[]

  • Supasupa (すぱすぱ/スパスパ?) is a Japanese onomatopoeia for repetitive, clean slicing motions.
  • Supari (すぱり/スパリ?) is onomatopoeic for a single, clean cut.
  • In English translations, it is called the Dice-Dice Fruit.

Appearance[]

The Supa Supa no Mi resembles a bunch of bananas. Each banana resembles a sword blade with a wavy hamon: The white portion is the sharp edge of a sword, while the dark gray section represents the blunt side. The latter sections contain the various swirls typical of Devil Fruits.[4]

Strengths and Weaknesses[]

Supa Supa no Mi Usage

Bonez demonstrating the ability of the fruit.

The major strength of the fruit, as demonstrated by Bonez, is that its user can create strong blades from any part of their body.[5][6] The ability allows the user's body to gain characteristics of steel, more specifically a blade. The user is immune to most slashing attacks and can cut through almost anything, from flesh to stone.[7][8]

The user seems to have the ability to cut through objects without the need to physically touch them, much like flying slashes used by various swordsmen. This has been shown through Bonez's Atomic Spurt, Spar Break and Spar Claw, the latter in at least one instance.[9] Also, as demonstrated by moves like Bonez's Spiral Hollow, the user can also make the blades spin like saws or drills.[10]

Mihawk Defeats Daz

However, the user's ability to resist slicing attacks is limited as Bonez is unable to easily manipulate the hardness of the steel blades. So, while the user is generally immune to most blade attacks, any sword strike strong enough to cut steel is sufficient to slice the user's flesh.[11] Aside from this, the standard Devil Fruit weaknesses apply.[12]

Usage[]

Daz Bonez[]

Daz Vs

Daz incorparating martial arts with his blades.

As an assassin and martial artist, Daz primarily uses the fruit's bestowed powers for combat, using them both for defense and offense. His style consists mainly of slashes, chops and acrobatic kicks that are further enhanced by the effects of his Devil Fruit. He also has the ability to sprout blades on the soles of his feet, allowing him to skate on solid ground as if it were ice.

In spite of his heavy reliance in blades, Daz does not consider himself a swordsman. Also, until he met Roronoa Zoro, Daz had claimed that no swordsman had ever so much as put a scratch on his body.[8] For this reason, Bonez intentionally let his guard down and goaded Zoro into attempting to cut him down multiple times during that fight, confident that the pirate hunter would be unable to wound him, which allowed for his eventual defeat.

Techniques[]

The techniques used by Bonez all contain "Supa" (スパ?) in their Japanese name. In the Viz Manga and 4Kids dub, this play on words is absent.

Spider

Spider.

  • Spider (斬人スパイダー, Supaidā?, literally meaning "Slash-/Cutting Man"): Remaining completely motionless, Daz hardens his body and becomes impervious to harm, similar in principle to Tekkai. This was first seen during Daz and Zoro's battle.[13] This is called Iron Guard in the Viz Manga and 4Kids dub and Spider Defense in the Funimation dub.
Spar Claw

Spar Claw.

  • Spar Claw (掌握斬スパークロー, Supā Kurō?, literally meaning "Grasping Slash/Cut"): Bones turns the undersides of his fingers into blades before slashing at his opponent. If he performs this move with enough force, he can even split objects behind his intended target. While the attack's name is mentioned in the manga, it is unnamed in the anime. This was first seen when Daz was attacking Nami,[9] but was named during his battle with Zoro.[14] In the Viz Manga, this is called Razor Claws. In the Funimation dub, it keeps its name.
Sparkling Daisy

Sparkling Daisy.

  • Sparkling Daisy (発泡雛菊斬スパークリングデイジー, Supākuringu Deijī?, literally meaning "Foaming Daisy Slash/Cut"): After turning the insides of his hands and fingers into blades, Daz places his hands together wrist-to-wrist before lunging at his opponent, whom he simultaneously stabs and slices with his hands. The sheer force behind this attack causes Daz to not only cut his intended target but things behind his target as well. This was first seen during Daz and Zoro's battle.[15] In the Viz Manga and 4Kids dub, this is called Daisy Blade. In the Funimation dub, it keeps its name.
Atomic Spar

Atomic Spar.

  • Atomic Spar (微塵斬アトミックスパ, Atomikku Supa?, literally meaning as "Particle/Atomic Slash/Cut"): After turning his fingers into blades, Daz crosses both hands over his chest before slashing forward with a downward "X" motion, instantly slicing anything in front of him. This was first seen during Daz and Zoro's battle.[16] This is called Atomic Dicer in the Viz Manga, Atomic Spar in the Funimation dub, and Atomic Dice in the 4Kids dub.
Spiral Hollow

Spiral Hollow.

  • Spiral Hollow (螺旋スパイラル抜斬ホロウ, Supairaru Horō?, literally meaning "Spiral Extraction Slash/Cut"): Daz creates circular blades along his forearms before making them spin, turning his forearms into mini-tiller blades that shred anything they touch. His fists remain unchanged during this attack. Due to the way the blades spin around Daz's arms, his arms resemble drills used by excavators. This was first seen during Daz and Zoro's battle.[10] In the Viz Manga and 4Kids dub, this is called Buzz Saws. In the Funimation dub, it keeps its name.
Spar Break

Spar Break.

  • Spar Break (滅裂斬スパーブレイク, Supā Bureiku?, literally meaning "Chaotic Slash/Cut"): Daz swings and crosses his bladed arms in front of him, resulting in several powerful horizontal slashes. The slashes are so sharp that they can cut objects behind the target as well. This was first seen during Daz and Zoro's battle.[17] This is called Tower Crusher in the Viz Manga and 4Kids dub. In the Funimation dub, it keeps its name.
Atomic Spurt

Atomic Spurt.

  • Atomic Spurt (微塵アトミック斬速刀スパート, Atomikku Supāto?, literally meaning "Particle/Atomic Slash-/Cutting Speed Sword"): As with many other of his attacks, Daz turns the insides of his hands and fingers into blades, but he also sprouts a blade on the bottom of each of his feet, like ice skates, and dashes towards his opponent, gaining great momentum before he strikes. This was first seen during Daz and Zoro's battle.[18] This is called Atomic Dicer in the Viz Manga, Atomic Dash in the 4Kids dub. In the Funimation dub, it keeps its name.

S-Hawk[]

Artificial Supa Supa no Mi

S-Hawk using the Supa Supa no Mi powers.

S-Hawk utilizes this power to complement his swordsmanship, turning his own legs into a blade that can create Flying Slash Attacks via kicking.[3]

In the anime, S-Hawk could utilize some of Daz's attacks, including Spar Claw, Spiral Hollow, and Atomic Spurt.[19]

Trivia[]

  • Bones' dream of being a super hero ("Supa Hero") is a play on words with his Devil Fruit.[20]
  • During the Impel Down breakout, the animation of Daz's bladearms were changed: his fingers completely disappeared.
  • The Supa Supa no Mi is similar in regards to the Buki Buki no Mi and the Choki Choki no Mi, as all three can be utilized to turn the user's body parts into blades. Also, compared to Baby 5's Buki Buki no Mi, the Supa Supa no Mi is considered an inferior Devil Fruit.[21]
