Aftermath[]

Saving Zemo[]

"The living are not done with you yet."
T'Challa to Helmut Zemo

The prologue of the story is set during Captain America: Civil War. In Siberia, Black Panther has confronted Helmut Zemo and is confessing to him that he almost killed the wrong man, Bucky Barnes, in vengeance for killing his father. Zemo then explains that he is from Sokovia and that his family was killed after the Avengers blew up Sokovia in order to save the world from Ultron, and why even though he couldn't kill the Avengers himself, he could make them kill each other. Zemo then tries to commit suicide using a gun, but T'Challa stops him from doing so.

The Winter Soldier Book[]

"But more important is that she has the book, and she's gone.""
Everett Ross to T'Challa

As T'Challa flies back from Siberia, he reflects on his father's death and how he is now truly alone. Zemo speaks little throughout the ride back to the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre in Berlin, Germany. In Berlin, Zemo and T'Challa meet with Everett Ross, who explains to T'Challa what will happen to Zemo at the Centre. As Zemo is put into custody, Ross explains how in a nearby boardinghouse the Winter Soldier Book was found, and how that could change a lot of things. Ross takes T'Challa to a conference room and briefs him on the Winter Soldier Book, its connection to Zemo, and how it was recently stolen by Charmagne Sund, a Sokovian woman. T'Challa reflects back onto his family and his father's death at the United Nations Summit in Vienna, Austria, but is put back into focus by Ross, who after revealing to T'Challa about a lead on Sund, takes T'Challa on a ride to the Berlin State Opera, where he believed she was.

Encounter with Charmagne Sund[]

As they were driving to the State Opera, their car was ambushed by Sund from the top floor of the opera house, bullets of vibranium pelting the car and injuring T'Challa. Despite the pain, T'Challa changed into his the Black Panther Suit, and after receiving a comm link with connection to Everett Ross, he crawled up the side of the opera house to find the trace of the bullets, but could not find anybody. Everett's team secured the area and started looking for clues, while T'Challa asked Ross, who was disappointed that T'Challa didn't catch the shooter, where the vibranium bullets came from. They came to the conclusion that some of the stolen vibranium had fallen into the hands of Sund. Meanwhile, as the Opera House investigation went on, T'Challa and Ross took a phone call with the Secretary of State Thaddeus Ross. As Everett took the call, T'Challa discovered Sund was from Sokovia, and that she was probably acting in vengeance. Suddenly, T'Challa and Ross were notified that Sund had bombed the Unter den Linden and explosions were constantly occurring. Using this as a distraction, Sund snuck into the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre Building and made the power go out, letting her release Zemo from his prison cell. She took him to the roof of the building and was about to kill him, as she was furious that emo had ruined the name of Sokovia with his plans to destroy the Avengers. T'Challa made his way up the roof and tried to stop her, but she shot him and stopped him from doing so. Just as Sund was about to kill Zemo, Everett Ross shot her right hand, stopping her from killing Zemo. Zemo is put back into custody with an armed guard, and Ross puts Sund into custody, retrieving the Winter Soldier Book as well.

Call From Captain America[]

As T'Challa returned home to Wakanda via his Royal Talon Fighter, he received a call from Captain America involving the Winter Soldier.

Behind the Scenes[]

Continuity[]

This section requires expansion
  • The prologue is taken from the deleted scene of T'Chaka confronting T'Challa in the City of the Dead, but the context of the confrontation is different, instead depicting a young T'Challa and Nakia having a race through the City of the Dead before being caught by T'Chaka, who scolds both of them for treating the Hall of Kings without respect and explains that T'Challa would one day come to the hall to seek guidance from past kings, including himself, before leaving to address some "business that calls me from here," presumably meaning confronting N'Jobu.
  • During the rescue of Nakia, two wild dogs run across the road before T'Challa makes his presence known rather than only a single stray dog appearing to bark at the tree in which T'Challa is hiding.
  • During the rescue of Nakia, T'Challa has more of a conversation with the militant threatening to shoot the hostage, with the militant seeming to know the Black Panther as "the Cat Demon, keeper of souls," with T'Challa proclaiming he is the Black Panther before Okoye defeats him rather than the militant simply claiming that he would shoot the woman with seemingly no prior knowledge of the Black Panther's existence and with T'Challa being unable to say anything to him before Okoye appears. Moreover, the militant is simply kicked away by Okoye rather than being stabbed with her spear, with his fate being left somewhat ambiguous.
  • Nakia is shown to be asleep just before the Royal Talon Fighter arrived back in Wakanda rather than her being awake and holding T'Challa's hand during that moment.
  • Shuri takes Okoye's Kimoyo Beads for upgrading rather than just T'Challa's and she remains for T'Challa's conversation with Ramonda rather than leaving just before it. Nakia also leaves the scene after Shuri's talk with T'Challa rather than before and leaves on her own rather than with Okoye.
  • T'Challa's meeting with T'Chaka in the Ancestral Plain begins with T'Chaka's spirit immediately present with a spirit of a younger T'Challa in the Black Panther suit next to him that merge together as the real T'Challa greets his father rather than T'Chaka's spirit first appearing as a panther before reverting back into T'Chaka and his spirit remaining alone. T'Challa also discusses his challenge with M'Baku with T'Chaka and T'Chaka's own internal crises about his leadership. Their meeting also continues a little past T'Chaka's statement that "it's hard for a good man to be king" rather than abruptly ending after that line.
  • T'Challa and Zuri have an extensive conversation after T'Challa returns from the Ancestral Plain regarding T'Challa's meeting with T'Chaka and his insecurities as leader rather than T'Challa simply happily telling Zuri that he met with his father in the Ancestral Plain with no further discussion with him regarding those events.
  • The director of the Museum of Great Britain is referred to as Director Manning rather than Fiona Thomas.
  • Killmonger introduces himself to Director Manning as "Erik Killmonger" while explaining the Wakandan origin of the vibranium ax. Two security guards arrive on scene after Klaue and Limbani arrive rather than three arriving before them and Klaue uses his sonic arm cannon to knock them out rather than shooting them dead. Director Manning's fate is also left unrevealed. Killmonger is not stated to have taken the Dogon Mask with him, while Klaue takes the entire ax rather than just the vibranium head. Killmonger and the ax are hidden inside a body bag on a stretcher rather than just lying on the stretcher with an oxygen mask on and Linda is stated to be the driver of the getaway ambulance rather than just a passenger.
  • T'Challa discusses his meeting with T'Chaka in the Ancestral Plain with W'Kabi and offers him to be his royal advisor, to which W'Kabi accepts.
  • Instead of Zawavari, the Merchant Tribe Elder tries to stop T'Challa from leaving to pursue Klaue, arguing that Wakanda needs a king rather than a warrior. T'Challa also make an impassioned speech regarding why he needs to go after Klaue and W'Kabi makes no mention of his parents' murder by Klaue or his request for T'Challa to either kill him or bring him back to Wakanda.
  • Nakia notices all five American agents in the Jagalchi Market Casino rather than only noticing three and needing to have the remaining two pointed out to her by Okoye. Ross also keeps T'Challa's second winnings rather than the "Thirsty Gambler".
  • T'Challa has more conversations with Everett Ross during their time in the Jagalachi Market Casino, including during the shootout within the casino as Ross's backup is mentioned as having been defeated by Klaue's men
  • T'Challa is briefly trapped beneath a brass beam following Klaue's sonic blast, having a brief conversation with Ross as he pushes the beam off of himself.
  • During the car chase, Klaue's mercenaries are the ones who claim that Okoye and Nakia's car is vibranium-laced rather than Klaue himself. Most of the chase involves checking for which car Klaue is in rather than a simple pursuit while T'Challa's kinetic energy destruction of Klaue's mercenaries' cars is a punch rather than a ground slam. Klaue is specifically stated as trying to reach a helicopter being piloted by Limbani. T'Challa is also held back from murdering Klaue by Nakia claiming that T'Chaka wouldn't want him to do so and that he must face his crimes in Wakanda rather than by the surrounding crowd recording him.
