The Battle at the Salvage Yard was a three-way conflict between Ultron, the Avengers, and Ulysses Klaue's group of mercenaries at a Salvage Yard on the coast of Africa.
Background[]
- "There is no man in charge. Let's talk business."
- ―Ultron to Ulysses Klaue[src]
Ultron had finished building a new body at the HYDRA Research Base and recruited Pietro and Wanda Maximoff to his cause at the Novi Grad Church. They then proceeded to obtain information on Ulysses Klaue from Baron Strucker before murdering him. Ultron went to the Salvage Yard with the twins in order to obtain vibranium that Klaue had stolen from Wakanda years earlier. The Avengers would soon follow Ultron to Klaue's base of operations in the salvage yard after analyzing physical records with Maria Hill to connect Strucker to Klaue. Thor and Captain America attempted to peacefully confront the trio, but Ultron attacked Iron Man and a battle between the three groups quickly escalated.[3]
Battle[]
- "Shoot them."
"Which ones?"
"All of them!" - ―Ulysses Klaue and Klaue's Mercenary[src]
Iron Man and Ultron started fighting while flying through the salvage yard. Thor and Captain America started fighting some Ultron Sentries. Quicksilver also joined the battle fighting the Avengers. Ulysses Klaue's forces started shooting at the Avengers and Ultron's forces. After Captain America defeated the Ultron Sentry he was fighting, he went to fight Quicksilver, but Quicksilver knocked him out temporarily.
Wanda Maximoff then began hunting for the Avengers, incapacitating Captain America and Thor by instilling nightmarish visions in them. She also instills a nightmarish vision on Black Widow, after she was knocked out during the battle. When she went to give Hawkeye a vision, he turned around, shocking her with an electric arrow until Quicksilver came and threw him through a window.[3]
Aftermath[]
Retreating outside, Wanda Maximoff glanced at Bruce Banner, who was coming out of the Quinjet, and informed her brother that she wished to stick with their plan and enthrall him. Successfully placating Banner's consciousness, she triggered his transformation and allowed Hulk to rampage to his full extent in the city of Johannesburg. Noticing this, Iron Man asked Black Widow to use her lullaby only for Hawkeye to inform him that the team was incapicitated. As a result, Iron Man summoned the Hulkbuster to stop Hulk. Following both battles, the Avengers, still haunted by the visions, retreated from the public eye and were given refuge at Clint Barton's Homestead.[3]
