The Iron Man Armor: Mark V, also known as the Suitcase Suit, was Tony Stark's fifth Iron Man suit. The first suit to specialize on portability and easy access, it was used by Stark during the Duel of Monaco, where it was damaged by Whiplash.

Having nearly failed to save Pepper Potts when fighting Obadiah Stane in Los Angeles, Tony Stark began working on making the Iron Man armor more portable. Stark believed he had figured it out with the Mark V, which could be stored in a briefcase-sized bundle at the expense of having less weapons. Thirty minutes before flying to Monaco, Stark finished assembling the Mark V. A hologram of the Mark V armor's briefcase form could be seen among the various holograms Tony Stark was examining when Pepper Potts visited him in his workshop. The Mark V was first seen at the Circuit de Monaco, in its briefcase configuration, handcuffed to Happy Hogan who was guarding it so that it could not easily be stolen.

When Whiplash attacked Stark during the Monaco Grand Prix, Stark was caught on the track, defenseless, until Hogan and Potts managed to get to him with the Mark V. Stark used the Mark V armor to defend himself against Whiplash and narrowly managed to defeat him despite the suit's reduced combat abilities, receiving large amounts of damage to the suit.[2]
Sometime after the battle, the Mark V was repaired and kept in Stark's "Hall of Armor" with the other "classics". When Stark's mansion was attacked by Mandarin's forces, it was destroyed due to damage to the mansion's systems; causing the suit to explode.[3]
The Mark V was eventually recreated following destruction and by 2018, it was displayed in its suitcase form in Happy Hogan's office at the Avengers Compound.[4]

In an alternate universe, Tony Stark donned the Mark V armor to protect Pepper Potts as she was grabbed by a P.R.O.T.E.A.N. Hybrid and thrown off the Helicarrier. He used the armor to fight the hybrids and rescue Potts. He continued to defend it in the armor, but was unable to continue so he fled and allowed James Rhodes to finish the fight.[5]

The Mark V was designed to be portable while providing the user with the advantages of an Iron Man armor. The suit was made up of a multitude of individual, miniature plates. This resulted in a much lighter suit that was also capable of folding into a briefcase. When the briefcase was activated, Stark inserted his hands into the sockets and lifted the assembly onto his chest. The suit automatically assembled around his body in a matter of seconds.
- Superhuman Strength: The armor increases the user's strength, to the point where Stark was able to kick a car out of the way, seemingly effortless. While wearing the armor, Stark was also able to easily crush Vanko's arc reactor in one hand.

- Superhuman Durability: The suit gives its user superhuman durability to a certain degree. However, due to the lighter plating and gaps between the numerous plates, this suit was more vulnerable overall than the other models. A couple of strikes from the Whiplash Armor: Mark I was able to tear through and severely damage the armor.

- Superhuman Agility: In addition to the suit's speed, it also provides mobility for user to maneuver around.
- Superhuman Stamina: In the battle against Whiplash, whose electrified whips badly damaged the suit it allowed Stark to sustain more extended periods against the latter.
- Flight: Unlike the previous armors, the suit repulsors can allow users limited flight if anymore weight is added to it that will be capable of flying.
- Heads Up Display (HUD): Assisted by J.A.R.V.I.S., the interface grants the armor a holographic view system.
- Self-Contained Life-Support System and Environmental Protection: The plating of the armor is able to protect the wearer from environmental impacts.

- Repulsors: The armor is outfitted with basic repulsor technology, capable of firing high-density energy beams for a concussive attack.
- Unibeam: The Arc Reactor in the chest is capable of firing a highly concentrated beam of energy for offensive capabilities.
