Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

"Do animals talk in this dimension? Cause I don't wanna freak anyone out..." - Spider-Ham

Hey Kids! You tired of those same old Spidey movies? Well Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and company have shaked it up with this film. What a fun movie to sit through and stands out as it's own unique Spidey flick.

Teen Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) becomes the Spider-Man of his universe, and must join with five spider-powered individuals from other dimensions to stop a threat for all realities.

Throughout the film I could really get behind Miles and his struggles with his new found Spidey powers, he starts out as your average pretty cool kid but by the end of the film I was like yep that's Spider-Man. It's also great when all the other spider-powered individuals enter the universe and is just cool watching them team up together and I enjoy all the tongue in cheek dialogue during the film.

This film certainly has a lot of character with the realism of it all despite the fact it is animated and is a superhero film, I think the scenes that involve Miles and his Dad to be very heartwarming as well as all the stuff with Uncle Aaron. The film really invests you into the characters since it needs to seeing as after all Peter Parker will always be Spider-Man to us, but it was great to see two versions of Peter Parker from different universes.

The best truimph this film does is the visual style, it's visually striking and actually feels like a comic book movie. It makes me feel like I'm reading a comic book and I got sucked into it and was watching it as a movie, the animation is just fantastic and as the action picks up so does the animation. I would say the film just gets better as it progresses on the enjoyment factor for me seeing as it does take it's time to get into things, and I would have liked to see a better first act but this film is solid throughout.

While I think the Letterboxd and IMDb rating for this are way too high, I can see why but for me the first two Raimi films are still top of my Spidey list. Overall 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a very solid and enjoyable outing and really develops Spider-Man in a whole new light for me and is one of the best visually striking Superhero films and one of the best comic book movies we will ever see, with a real powerful message to go with what we are seeing on the screen.
