This is me and my Dad's first watch of 'Fury Road' since we saw this film in theaters way back in 2015, and it still absolutely fucking SLAPS.
Even with the occasional repetition despite the effort to center each chase sequence around a significant plot beat and what I'm sure are a few studio mandates strung about (I think the prologue wasn't originally intended, but I could be wrong), 'Fury Road' is George Miller's fully-realized vision for 'Mad Max' with a substantial studio budget to boot. A pure work of art like this rarely gets past the "essential" Hollywood "quality assurance" intact.
From its high-octane action to the abundance of spectacular effects rooted in practical means, strong visual storytelling, worldbuilding, unexpected use of silent film techniques like sped-up footage to enhance the thrills, Margaret Sixel's outstanding editing, a memorable cast of players with distinct characterizations, and Tom Holkenborg's best film score to date, I know its praises have been parroted to death. But I have to agree that 'Fury Road' is undeniably cinema. Whether you agree that Furiosa fully deserves a prequel spinoff, whatever gives George Miller an excuse to keep making movies is always welcome.
