In Bed 2022

In Bed desperately wants to blend Hitchcockian thrills with Noéian hallucinations, but it falls flat. Nitzan Gilady glosses over themes of self-acceptance, violence, trauma, and paranoia without really digging into any of them. For all of its intense focus on sex and drugs, it’s surprisingly tame. All three characters are severely underwritten — Moran Rosenblatt’s Joy driving a role that only suits one purpose. The acting is poor across the board.

Marianne and Juliane is a stunning and textured look at activism, sisterhood, and conviction. A welcome surprise in how it navigates the relationships caught in the crossfire and the evolution of its central one. Jutta Lampe is phenomenal.

Creepy dolls are long-running fears that horror films have taken advantage of for many years. The Child’s Play franchise, Annabelle, The Boy, and Dead Silence are just a few examples of how storytellers used seemingly innocent toys as a facade for something much more sinister. The twisted team behind 2021’s Malignant, Akela Cooper and James Wan, once again collaborated to bring the world M3GAN along with Housebound director Gerard Johnstone onboard. The final product is dark, comical, and highly amusing.
