by the wood paneling alone i could tell this was set in the 90s but just to make it more clear, they had to put that giant portrait of bill clinton in carter’s office just to make sure you knew.
i went in with not many expectations just because the marketing has been pretty vague other than the high praise and left satisfied. maika monroe was once again a standout performance but what’s new there? nicolas cage was sufficiently creepy and his presence as longlegs definitely got under my skin as promised. alicia witt was absolutely amazing also as lee’s mother. obsessed with religious themes in horror as a religiously traumatized kid and OBSESSED with the blood from ruth’s gunshot wound being in the shape of a cross. oh the symbolism. that shit was fucked. hopefully carter’s daughter either doesn’t remember that shit or gets some extreme forms of therapy afterwards. so glad to have finally watched this. and now i need to rewatch it several times.
