this one made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. very underrated. it got my attention because of the title, reminded me of coraline (2009) and in some ways, it has similar qualities. forgive me for not knowing the actress who plays the mothers name, but she scared the fuck out of me. “are you awake?” the DANCING scene, if you even wanna call it that…….the mom really took the creep factor to a different level. a simple folktale. but there’s more to it than meets the eye.

I Spit on Your Grave 1978
aka ‘day of the woman’ so many people will never watch this film. it will just fade away into the ocean of obscurity in cinema, lost to the sands of time…but not for me. in some ways, i truly believe this is one of the most important films ever made. we respect the merit of films, like, funny games (1997) we understand the performance of monica belluci in irreversible (2002) we even understand the historical importance of a film, like, the virgin…

Skincare 2024
beauty is a cutthroat business. at first, i didn’t have any interest in this film, solely because of the poster. originality matters. being a blonde (2022) knock-off…but as a gay, i saw the trailer and oblivion by grimes is bumping??? i’m in. the premise is simple. an aging beauty, skincare queen is repeatedly sabotaged and targeted by an unknown who wants to ruin her career.
the score/soundtrack are SOOOOOO GAY in the best way possible <3 once i heard nuclear seasons…

Longlegs 2024
the opening scene made me jump out of my seat in the theater. that never happens. it reminds me of the jumpscare that wasn’t really a jumpscare in lake mungo. this isn’t my first rodeo, i know the horror genre like the back of my hand. this is gonna be brief, but i think fully seeing longlegs (nicholas cage) ruined the entire film. the way he was kept half out of frame in the beginning should’ve been how it was…

The Substance 2024
when you hear older people say, “i saw the exorcist in theaters when it first came out.” or any other genre defining piece of cinema they saw in their day…when i’m old, decrepit, rocking in my rocking chair at the nursing home…i’m gonna say to my nurse, “i fucking saw the substance in theaters when it first came out.” let me be clear. this film is a masterpiece.
every single tiny, minuscule detail is divine. coralie fargeat is a living,…

Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person 2023
the most beautiful coming of age story i’ve seen in a very long time. the main performance at the center is what makes it for me because she actually looks like a vampire. her performance is so nuanced, it’s subtle but so impactful. this film is a very wholesome, ironically humanistic approach to what vampires are. the music that’s playing throughout the story is just gorgeous.
the film taps into that awkwardness of the human experience…it’d be hard to not acknowledge the…

Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom 1975
idk why the fuck i decided to watch this. curiosity killed the cat. i had to watch it in 30 minute increments. this shit was fucking hard to get through…i am intoxicated and still, numb, i understand where people could be coming from, discussing its merit. this is pure, unadulterated evil. the depravity, it reaches down into the abyss of what festers under the human condition. just because you don’t see it happening, doesn’t mean it isn’t happening in the world.…

Rosemary's Baby 1968
the greatest film of all time, transcending genre. excuse me for being gay and dramatic, but this film fundamentally changed me as a person. mia farrow is the reason i want to become an actor. this performance is one of the most vulnerable, unsettling even with her SKIN at the peak of her pregnancy. oh my fu k it creeps under your skin like a parasite and instills paranoia. the subtext deals with sexual repression. religious guilt. the dream sequences say…

Nights of Cabiria 1957
anora…but it’s the most devastating film you will ever see in your life. no twink involved. cabiria isn’t a stripper. she’s a prostitute. she isn’t 23. she’s loud, obnoxious, and fiercely independent but ultimately, she wants to be loved. the performance of giulietta masina is very literally, a masterclass in the art of acting. the ending wrecks me every single time. maybe the greatest 4th wall break of all time.

Anora 2024
sorry to say, this film is not a love story. you could be easily fooled from the tinsel glistening in her hair to the cheesy, tacky pop song that plays waaaaaay too often, but it’s far from romantic. to me? igor was just a kindhearted man who saw a young girl who no one asked the entire runtime “are you okay?” it felt more like a paternal figure to me.
the ending scene seems to be the thing everyone is…

Starry Eyes 2014
an underrated gem if there ever was one. please don’t write it off as trash based on the cameras and the mediocre acting from the supporting cast….it’s very simple but there’s a quality to it i can’t explain. just watch for yourself. this is a body horror film. the body horror aspects are extremely well done…it’s fucking gross. it takes selling your soul to a whole different level.
