beauty is a cutthroat business. at first, i didn’t have any interest in this film, solely because of the poster. originality matters. being a blonde (2022) knock-off…but as a gay, i saw the trailer and oblivion by grimes is bumping??? i’m in. the premise is simple. an aging beauty, skincare queen is repeatedly sabotaged and targeted by an unknown who wants to ruin her career.
the score/soundtrack are SOOOOOO GAY in the best way possible <3 once i heard nuclear seasons by charli xcx…i’m riding this until the end. the story deals with the ugliness of feeling irrelevant. the risky business of aging. being phased out by someone younger than you. fighting for what you want. it’s not the greatest film in the world but not everything has to be. i genuinely had a fun time! a popcorn movie!! a glossy thriller, serums and moisturizers galore. the ending was a little expected but oh well…it was a fun ride. elizabeth banks was GREAT! fucking loved this performance.
