Deserves props for its animation, voice work, and unique, eye-popping visual style. At its core, it’s a simple story with a simple message, and it does its job well in that regard even if all the characters and emotional beats aren’t completely there. I definitely struggle to equate this new wave of self referential superhero stories to some groundbreaking reinvention of the genre because this really isn’t (and it doesn’t touch Raimi’s trilogy), but it has heart and an earnestness that I do respect.
