Darren Carver-Balsiger’s review published on Letterboxd:
Commitment matters. Know what you want to do and stick to it. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a miracle, a Sony franchise movie that is not hacky and actually committed to something. This film fully embraces comic-book weirdness wholeheartedly. It's hallucinogenic, self-aware nonsense; genre thrills for both kids and adults who miss childish pleasures. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse also commits heavily to comedy, and never devalues the humour by pretending it's secondary to the drama. The art-style is bold, the character designs are awesomely exaggerated, it's pop art brought to the big screen. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is hilarious and magnificent. Of course the film is a safe bet in commercial terms, but boy they took some artistic risks, and every single one pays off. The most joyous celebration of superheroes since ... ever?
Side-note: Almost every character provides some comedy gold, but the older Peter Parker and Spider-Man Noir are the real scene stealers. Every time Nicolas Cage delivered a line as Spider-Man Noir, I pretty much cracked up.
