already left my review, here’s things katie said throughout the movie
“i don’t remember this in the book”
“did they say Jarvis?”
“i want cheesecake”
“why would they tease me with the wormies in the beginning?”
“stop staring at her like a rat”
“bro thought he had rizz”
“dang it mom, why you gotta be so mean to me :(“
“i wanna see a little baby wormie like wahh whahhhhhhh *unintelligible noise she made with her mouth* i never thought about it before but now i wanna see one”
“i have extra raising canes sauce”
“time to eat yummy cheesecake”
“i would purposely get in dangerous situations so you’d save me”
“damn she don’t give a shit about Paul”
“why he built like that”
“not gonna lie i wouldve gave up like two seconds in” (referring to worm riding)
“hey i call them rats too, twinning”
“the hand thump summons the baby worms”
“why’s he look like Justin Bieber?” (when Feyd-Rautha walks into the arena)
“why’d he kiss his uncle twice?”
“but the whole quote is fear is the mind killer, Paul did not watch the first movie”
“im the sub in this relationship, Gurney”
“THERES A BABY WORMIE” (she said a lot here and most of it was unintelligible)
“I TOLD YOU THE HAND THUMP SUMMONS THE BABY WORMIES”
“if you touch another baby worm i’m gonna kill you, bitch”
“they wouldnt like me as reverend mother, i’d join the wormies”
“how was i supposed to know he wants Rabban to kiss his boots, he just kissed his uncle”
“imagine he doesnt wanna go south because he doesn’t know directions or where south is”
“jarvis, tell me where south is”
“the wormie empire beginth”
“do they have a tent on the wormie? oh my goodness need”
“i want the biggest wormie and then i want little baby ones following me”
“screw Paul being the Muad’dib, that’s me, bitch”
“if they kill another baby wormie im literally gonna lose it”
“we get it paul, youre basically the messiah but you don’t have to be saying one liners, do you think Jesus said one liners?”
“cringe dude, come up with your own line” (after Feyd-Rautha says may thy knife chip and shatter)
“bro did not get that victory royale”

the 3rd academy awards premiered in November of 1930 honoring the films of 1929 and 1930, only seven months after the 2nd ceremony, being the only year to have two ceremonies in the same year, to this day. still being broadcast on radio only, this ceremony also had certain sections filmed, including the best actress and best screenwriting portions. also being the first year to introduce best sound recording, a category still around today
All Quiet on the Western Front became the first film to win both best picture and best director, something that tends to be very common nowadays, including just in last years ceremony with Oppenheimer (2023) winning both awards, it’s interesting to see how much the awards have evolved
All Quiet on the Western Front is very well made, it’s honestly pretty crazy to think this is a film from 1930 sometimes, the cinematography and sound design are way ahead of their time, fantastic practical effects, and how the actual film looks is incredible, it’s got such a clean look to it that seems like something you’d see in the 1950s or 1960s
i’m not big on war movies so this did stutter for me a bit but the fact that a film like this not only came out in the time of Hitler and Nazi Germany (it was banned in Germany due to its anti-war message and was labeled a “Judenfilm” by Goebbels, translated to mean “Jewish film”) with World War 2 on the horizon, but also won the award for best picture is very impressive to me
next is Cimarron (1931) and to be honest i am not looking forward to it lol
]]>still remains one of Fincher’s best, always a blast to watch and it’s so perfectly paced. Fincher doesn’t get much better than this

]]>Clint knows how to make a damn fine movie. love the camerawork, Kevin Bacon and Tim Robbins have great performances, and the movie was a lot more tense than i was expecting it to be. really interesting study and take on trauma and hypermasculinity, especially from a director like Clint Eastwood, i really wanna explore his full filmography one day
Dave deserved better

the 2nd Academy Awards premiered a little less than a year after the first in 1930, and honoring the films of 1928 and 1929. it was the first ceremony to be broadcast on the radio and there were only 7 categories which to me is pretty insane considering how many there are now. another interesting fact, this is the only year where none of the films nominated won more than one Oscar, which might be due to the fact that there were so few categories, one of the biggest changes being that this was the first ceremony to have 5 nominations in most categories.
The Broadway Melody is a very interesting film, it was the first talkie and musical to win Best Picture, and is one of only 7 films to win Best Picture without a writing nomination, which i can certainly say that it didn’t need one, this film is a real stinker
i will give it the benefit of the doubt and say that they were still figuring out how to make sound pictures but the audio mixing is terrible, the writing is horrendous, the acting is laughably bad, and the musical numbers aren’t even memorable, which whenever you’re watching a musical, you kind of hope the songs will be good. there’s really not a lot else i can say, The Broadway Melody is just kind of a flop of a film, i watched it on YouTube and i’ll link it here. next is All Quiet on the Western Front (1930), which i’m definitely looking forward to
]]>literally the greatest thing ever in the world, so fantastic and entertaining, insanely energetic with everyone at their creative heights giving one of the most engaging and memorable concert films ever, Jonathan Demme uses unorthodox methods that arent typically used for concert films to create something like anything i’ve ever seen

doing a challenge for myself this year where i’m going to try and watch every film that’s won best picture, starting with this: Wings
the early Academy Awards were pretty interesting, they’re certainly a far cry from the Oscars we know today, they were held in the middle of the year and in the case of the first ceremony, which wasn’t even broadcast on television or radio, instead being a private ceremony in 1929 and honored 1927 and 1928 in cinema
Wings was interesting and entertaining, the dogfight sections were incredible and it’s insane how well made they are and how fantastic the effects were for the time, it is just stunning stuff. i started watching this on Tubi and ended up switching to YouTube, Tubi’s version has a very annoying ragtime piano loop due to this being a silent film and that got grating after 30 minutes but thankfully this is a public domain film so i was able to find a version on YouTube with an actual soundtrack and sound effects, i’ll link it here
camera work was stunning, there’s one tracking shot that blew my mind, the story is gripping and the acting isn’t half bad, i just think the length of the film brings it down some and even with its charming technical limitations, that is a bit of a downside to it. overall, i can definitely see why Wings won best picture and i’d say it deserved it. next is The Broadway Melody (1930) which seems to be very divisive but we shall see

]]>what a way to start the new year
beautifully shot, so many incredible shots and the framing is spectacular, the eeriness and dread that fills this film is chilling, i didn't expect to enjoy this as much as i did, and it did start kind of slow for me but that 3rd act just had me hooked, the ending is fantastic, and the way that the film presents itself as a southern gothic fairy tale is masterful, imagine making one movie and it's this good
i can't really understand why this wasn't liked when it came out, too bleak or heavy for audiences at the time maybe. but today, The Night of the Hunter stands as a landmark of classic noir cinema and it is a wonderful experience to watch
]]>an inspiring tale about what it really means to be human the impact we have on others lives, every life is precious and it is something to be celebrated
if there’s one thing that’s consistent in my life, it’s knowing that every year i will watch Halloween (1978) on Halloween and It’s a Wonderful Life on Christmas
i hope that we can all go into the new year with a positive mental attitude and spread some joy and happiness to each other
]]>pretty good horror romp, kinda perfectly paced because of its shorter length, i feel like it really would’ve suffered with a longer runtime. it has been a LONG time since i had to watch a movie, especially a horror movie, through my hands, i mean there’s a couple scenes in this near the end that actually made me queasy, so good job Mike Flanagan on making me want to puke. Flanagan seems like an interesting director and i can’t wait to check out the rest of his catalogue
]]>very meandering and slow but in all the right ways, it doesn’t tend to feel its length and the development of the plot builds to an explosive climax and the deconstruction of the Western film done by the master of Western cinema is beautiful. can’t wait to check out Once Upon a Time In America (1984) if i can ever find the time
]]>yes this is a christmas movie, no i will not hear any arguments, haters stay mad
been almost a decade since i’ve seen this, forgot how wildly entertaining and well paced it is, Alan Rickman is fantastic and it has aged like a fine wine and will always go down as one of the greatest action films ever

]]>bit of a weird one, but a movie i’ve wanted to see for a while, finally came to the criterion collection and it was… alright? don’t get me wrong, i enjoyed it, laughed at things i shouldn’t have laughed at, but i always heard about how this was “one of the most disturbing and messed up movies ever”, and yeah there’s pedophilia played off as a joke and disturbing themes but maybe it’s a testament to how desensitized ive become to sensitive topics, but it didn’t seem too disturbing for me personally.
still an enjoyable watch, i expected it to go more into the connected aspect of the characters but it tends to focus on Bill and his family for the most part.
overall, i’d say Happiness was worth the watch, probably gonna have to check out more of Todd Solondz’s films now

]]>beautiful filmmaking, just truly something else. subverts typical romcom tropes but still remains accessible and entertaining. Andrew Garfield gives a wonderful performance, honestly gotta add him to my list of all time favorite actors, i tend to love everything he’s in, and this is one of his best performances next to one of Florence Pugh’s best performances, their chemistry is unmatched. We Live in Time tapped into a deep fear i’ve always had with my girlfriend too so there was that, overall it’s definitely one of my favorite movies of the year
gf rating: 5/5
]]>i already know this is controversial, this is one of the most popular films right now and people love it, but personally i didn’t really like it. the use of practical effects and actual direction and use of framing are incredible, the editing is fantastically done, and the concept is unique for sure but i think what it has to say about ageism in hollywood and the commodification of women in media falls a little flat for me personally, i feel like the movie really started to drag on and it truly started to lose me. i understand the love and praise for this, but i personally don’t see the vision

]]>after Sing (2016), The Secret Life of Pets (2016), The Grinch (2018), and The Super Mario Brothers Movie (2023), im convinced that Illumnation just doesn’t even WANT to make good movies
genuinely one of the most soulless films i have ever seen, predictable and boring, the plot is practically nonexistent and all over the place, the humor just boils down to “haha poop”, yes i know this is just supposed to be a silly film for children but that doesnt mean that the movie needs to be baseless and dull, films like Shrek 2 (2004) and Winnie the Pooh (2011) are examples of movies that came out during my childhood that are not only well made but appeal to both children and adults, films that have something to say, rather than appealing to a brainrotted generation. and this movie did really really well, so you know there’s gonna be a 5th one. heaven save us
Double Life is far too good for this movie, without that song and some of the jokes that actually made me chuckle, this would be a much lower rating
gf rating: 1/5
]]>ending spooky month with the perfect movie to finish it off. one of the greatest horror flicks of all time, perfectly crafted, incredible use of framing with an awesome soundtrack, Michael Myers remains terrifying and dreadful to this day, the fact that he’s basically an unstoppable force makes him even more terrifying to me. will always love watching this on Halloween night
gf rating: 4/5
]]>didnt hit like i thought it would, some of the stories fall flat for me but the concept is awesome, absolutely love how the stories all tie together with each other, it is done incredibly well, decent cast, but just didn’t live up to its hype that i had heard from other people. still happy i finally watched it though and with how short it is, i can’t even be mad that i didn’t enjoy it as much as i wanted to
]]>Watched on Tuesday October 29, 2024.
]]>first time watching since release probably, a classic story from King with some really great filmmaking but it falls short due to its jarring CGI at points and over reliance on jumpscares. i think i may like the miniseries more, but that also needs a rewatch
gf rating: 3/5
]]>(wanted to watch my 4K but im on a trip and forgot to bring it)
masterfully made, nihilistic, existential, disturbing, graphic, and downright terrifying, everything a horror movie should be, John Carpenter’s The Thing is a masterclass in filmmaking and reaches heights that not many other films do. the practical effects STILL look spectacular to this day, even 40 years later. forever my favorite horror movie
]]>Watched on Sunday October 13, 2024.
]]>pretty disappointing compared to the first film, kind of boring, not very interesting or well executed for me personally, feels like they focused way more on the cop aspect of the series rather than the actual victims which is what i personally think made the first movie so interesting. we’ll see how Saw 3 (2006) fares, but i’m not expecting much
]]>okay listen, i know ive been doing only spooky movies for this month but this movie is just so awesome, it’s hard to not want to rewatch it, plus, the action scenes are so intense it could be scary for some viewers, plus it has ghost in the name, ghosts are scary right?? see, it all worked out
]]>listen, i think this is a wonderfully crafted film and very entertaining to watch, but i just cannot get into as much as everyone else, and i dont know why. but somehow i still love watching it, so strange. i really wish Wendy was more like she in the book and not just a useless screaming child, she isn’t very intuitive at all and is just kind of there to be the main torture victim of Jack. Jack Nicholson is great too but i gotta agree with King, he already seems deranged before they even make it to the Overlook, instead of being a broken man who gets taken advantage of by the ghosts of the hotel. overall, i enjoy watching this, it’s a great movie, but not without its nitpicks from me
]]>a disappointing mess, a dishonor to the legendary story by King, not just boring but also poorly made and tries so hard to compile so much into one 2 hour film but ultimately fails. can’t say i’m surprised
Stephen King try to write a character that isn’t from Maine and a writer challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)

]]>if you needed more proof that the court system is terrible, this documentary is for you. pure conjecture and reaching for conclusions whenever there is zero evidence to who actually murdered these poor children. looking forward to the second one
]]>somehow feels too long for a film thats under 90 minutes, and the faux documentary schtick doesn’t really do much for me. feels weird to call this a horror film too, it’s not really that scary. i appreciate how it realistically and respectfully handles these characters grief but i just found it really boring and uninteresting personally
]]>stunning and dramatic, could easily be 5 stars, i’ve been wanting to see this for forever and finally got around to it. a beautiful deconstruction on faith and religion, it handles the topic of losing your faith and struggling with your beliefs perfectly while telling the stories of things that Christians had to suffer because of their beliefs.
i feel disgusting whenever i hear people say today that “Christians are persecuted”, even if that were true, we still have the right to practice what we believe, we aren’t being tortured or held upside down to bleed out, or even crucified as a mockery of Jesus Christ
Scorsese made something truly beautiful here, i’m very happy that i’ve seen it now
