This film exceeded my expectations. While this film doesn’t live up to the behemoth that of the first Gladiator, very few films manage to do so.
This film was grand in its scope, reminiscent of Napoleon, which admittedly I am a sucker for. Ancient Rome has never felt so vivid and tangible. The set pieces were impressive. Paul Mescal performed well, though I didn’t quite feel the intensity of his rage that the film aimed to convey. Pedro was excellent, and Denzel brought a wonderfully wicked performance that truly stole the show.
The quirky pacing and lazy dialogue are the only real negatives I have.
Also, shoutout to The Hound.
Overall, excellent film.
