I recorded what we did last summer.
Some of the kills are fun, the music is a throwback and a half and the overall effect is that of oldschool slasher film energy but it's nothing to write or (record) home about.
-
A cacophonous soundtrack and score (comprised of clanging sounds and shit nu-metal and techno) drown out much of the dialogue which, in this case, is a blessing. Otherwise, this inane, poorly directed and edited, and deeply illogical effort is interesting only because it’s a Korean take on the American slasher, released in the slipstream of Scream and its ilk, most notably riffing on I Know What You Did Last Summer.

It's just a teen slasher? I don't know. I was kind of expecting a little more. I don't think this is a terrible movie I was just let down brutally. Also the pacing kinda sucked, and the acting probably wasn't the greatest I've ever seen. It's nicely shot, but that's the only thing keeping this painfully cliche and boring movie interesting.

Made my friends watch this and I noticed a very tiny detail I hadn’t seen in prior rewatches! Not saying what it is but!!!!
This movie is a big favorite, and the DVD copy is a prized possession of mine

The Big Ole List of Horror-esque Movies I Watched This October 2017
Movie #44:
Every review I've read of this movie mentions I Know What You Did Last Summer, and I can understand why. To the point that there are scenes lifted from that movie. But I wouldn't mind that if this thing had some bite. A couple of bloody bodies and an out of left field final twist aside, this really does feel like a total cash in by people who didn't really want to make the movie and were just rushing to get it done. They don't even bother with character development, a reason how someone thinks they can stab someone with a knife and not have them…

Deutscher Titel: FEAR NO EVIL

It's either an incredibly dumb giallo-esque rip-off of I Know What You Did Last Summer or a bat-shit brilliant and scathing indictment of the South Korean education system.
I dunno. It was fun though.
-
I Know What You Did Last Summer but in messier tendencies, and an unexpected fetish in giallo. D+
-
At times suspenseful prank-gone-wrong themed teen slasher/whodunit from Korea. The identity of the killer is too obvious and uninspired, thus deflating the final act.
-
Upon second watch, this movie doesn’t only borrow heavily from IKWYDLS, but also from Scream.
And somehow is better than both (i love both of them don’t @ me)
More movies should be made on Cantonese DVDs with ambiguous-at-best authenticity. If i see a Cat 3 warning and only Chinese letters on the box, and plop in the Region 0 disc, and BOTH English and Cantonese subtitles can’t be turned off, it just adds to the experience. This movie’s incredible as it is, for reasons I already went into in my previous review.
Shame that almost no trace of it exists online. Get yourself a Hong Kong made ambiguous-at-best DVD copy.

There’s really something super special about Korean horror movies from the 90s and 2000s, and The Record is no exception. Korean horror is typically very slow-paced, but The Record starts off with a breakneck pace and keeps it that way the whole way through, this didn’t feel like an hour and a half at all. The plot may basically just be a slightly altered version I Know What You Did Last Summer with a few traits taken from Scream, but hey i’ll take it because i loved that movie too.
My only real gripe is the kills really leave a lot to be desired, which is kind of a sin when it comes to slashers. They’re not horribly done though and…
