Synopsis
The Interrogator Erik Backstrom is forced to return to his former home village to solve a murder mystery, in which the local polices and some hunters and even Erik's family seems to be involved. Soon, the conflicts are in full action, especially between Erik and the local police Torsten. Torsten does not support Erik very much in his job and has, for some personal reasons, already arrested a suspected perpetrator. Eric takes great risks when he starts digging in the criminal material of the horrible murder case.

I didn't realise when I switched it on, but False Trail is the sequel to the 1996 Swedish film 'The Hunters'. Like the original, this was directed by Kjell Sundvall and starred Rolf Lassgård. This installment had the addition of actor Peter Stormare. I had to stop the film after 30 minutes to check iMDb as I knew I's seen this Peter Stormares face before in American films but I couldn't place which ones. I couldn't concentrate on the film until I put my mind at rest and found out. Turns out he's been in an awful lot of well known movies, 2 of which I'd seen in the last 6 months - Get the Gringo, and The Killing Room.…

Fünfzehn Jahre nach "Jägarna" entschloss man sich dazu die Geschichte um den eigensinnigen Ermittler Erik Bäckström fortzusetzen. Dabei schliesst man gut an den Vorgänger an. Traumatische Ereignisse entfalten noch Jahre später ihre volle Wirkung und auch in Sachen Aufbau und Handlung gibt es deutlich erkennbare Ähnlichkeiten.
Wieder gibt es eine Figur, die sich als böser Mensch herausstellt. Wieder ist spätestens nach der Hälfte die Täterfrage geklärt und die Suche nach Beweisen nimmt ihren Lauf. Wieder stehen sowohl Familie als auch die Jagd im Vordergrund. Und wieder gelingt ein durchaus guter Thriller. Der Fall ist hierbei nun etwas normaler als noch zuvor.

It was already clear in the middle of the movie who the killer was, but they managed to stretch it out for the remaining half!
But considering Peter Stormare in a rather rare leading role, and he was damn good in it, I can't complain.

Solid Swedish crime thriller dominated by outstanding performances from Rolf Lassgard and Peter Stormare as a pair of chalk and cheese cops investigating the disappearance of a young woman. Plenty of attention to police procedure and the occasional expedient bending of the rules, but also an emotional undertow because of the two men's shared past.
[Has anyone seen the original Jagarna? I'd be interested in finding out more about it. In particular, how its characters and storyline relate to this belated sequel.]

Стормаре в роли плохого копа старается, но и он не может оправдать искусственно затянутый хронометраж, годящийся скорее для мини-сериала.

Fifteen years on and Erik Bäckström (Rolf Lassgård) is sent back to Norrland to assist on a missing person's case. One of the lead investigators, Torsten (Peter Stormare) also happens to be stepfather to Erik's nephew, Peter. Erik is not convinced that their primary suspect is guilty, which soon puts him on a collision course with Torsten. Again written and directed by Kjell Sundvall, False Trail (Jägarna 2) is a worthy sequel that improves on the strengths of the first film whilst being an enjoyable stand alone crime drama in its own right. You'll suss out the culprit early on, the fun comes from working out the whys, hows and whether they will be brought to justice.

Yet another tasty little Scandinavian crime drama that benefits immensely from a bit of crazy Stormare but loses out from being half an hour too long and more than a bit predictable.
