To this sequel and director Kjell Sundvall’s credit, they all did a great job capturing the tone of the original, with, I guess, the photography being slightly brighter. I didn't realise when I switched it on, but False Trail is the sequel to the 1996 Swedish film 'The Hunters'. Like the original, this was directed by Kjell Sundvall and starred Rolf Lassgård. It was already clear in the middle of the movie who the killer was, but they managed to stretch it out for the remaining half!
But considering Peter Stormare in a rather rare leading role, and he was damn good in it, I can't complain.
Solid Swedish crime thriller dominated by outstanding performances from Rolf Lassgard and Peter Stormare as a pair of chalk and cheese cops investigating the disappearance of a young woman. Plenty of attention to police procedure and the occasional expedient bending of the rules, but also an emotional undertow because of the two men's shared past.
[Has anyone seen the original Jagarna? I'd be interested in finding out more about it. In particular, how its characters and storyline relate to this belated sequel.]
