Just hasn’t really aged well at all. He becomes an officer but idk about a gentleman. An Officer and an Asshole maybe a more suitable title
I didn't know they made Band-Aids that big
Yes he was an officer but was he really a gentleman? 🤨
that scene where Sid is standing in a patch of flowers and forlornly looking out over the cliff to the ocean with the words ‘loverboy’ printed on the back of his sweater is such a Mood
feminist me really wanted to not like this but i also want richard gere to carry me out of the factory where i work
set in a world where industry chimneys disgorging heavy plumes into the air while that is set as a nice landscape of small-town USA like nothing happened, this is at the bottom of its heart a movie about Richard "80s David Duchovny type" Gere looking for a real father figure and place for his fragile manhood in this world. he's so alone. at least he's breaking down once saying this, while being kind of an assholy hero for the rest…

This film does not stand the test of time. It was Considered a beautiful love story when it was released in 1982 but now it comes off as incredibly offensive to women who are treated like shit through most of the film and only “win” when the man decides to save them from a life of poverty and sorrow by marrying them. It also plays up the age old “Madonna/whore” theroy as the female leads are either meek and supplicating…
An officer AND a gentleman? In this economy??
Only 14k people on here have seen this? 14k!? This movie gets referenced in movies and TV shows all the time! Well if you haven’t seen it and are a fan of 80’s cheese then it’s definitely a must watch!
The movie I feel gets better as it goes along! The start of the movie is a whole lot different to the end and in all the best ways! I didn’t really know what the film was about and the…
A decent navy cadet training school depiction, wrapped up in a downtrodden blue collar love story.
This film feels influential on the later likes of Top Gun and even Full Metal Jacket. Inspiring, and full of truthful moments. Richard Gere is smoking, and Debra Winger has rarely been better, but the real star of the show is the Oscar winning performance by Louis Gossett Jnr.
A solid crowd pleaser thanks to a worthy ensemble.

”Wave good-bye to your buddies, Mayonnaise!”
Richard Gere’s a Navy Officer candidate who’s got nowhere else to go. Then he meets Debra Winger, a Puget Sound Deb who’s better than candy. Nearly two hours later, love finally lifts them up where they belong. The End.
This boot camp drama with it’s heaping helping of schmaltzy romance, and more daddy issues than the Oates Military Academy, feels a bit like an already completed…
