At an appropriate time, I would very much be into another limited series adaptation, preferably on HBO. If it’s on Netflix I will commit arson.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Spent the week watching this in pieces and boy did it impress.

A movie and a show are very different things, so there’s no real reason to compare them. I love them both for different reasons.

Given the gift of time, the TV show is the truer adaptation of the book (which is my favorite book of all time, as if it needed to be said) but not the better one in my opinion.

The film tweaks some things, combines…

    NOTES REVIEW:
    - Clint’s sons put mayo on their hot dogs. They got what they deserved.

    - Really dig this low key opening of Tony and what’s her face hanging out, waiting to die.

    - “I dream about you. Cuz it’s always you.” Killer line delivery. Downey needs to get some serious dramatic roles now that he’s done with the MCU. Dude’s got chops.

    - “I lost the kid.” Jesus Christ, Downey.

    - I love how emaciated they made Stark.…

    It says ‘stay.’

In prep for daddy’s eventual 11th film, as well as a farewell to my beloved apartment in Manhattan, I came into this watch ready to cry. I did.

I’m not going to argue that this is Nolan’s tightest film, or even his best, but I will die on the hill that to date, it is the movie that best encompasses his skills as a storyteller. And it’s just great to see him make a movie as good…

    Watchmen

    ★★★

This proved once and for all that adapting Watchmen was possible, and perhaps necessary, no matter what that grump Alan Moore says.

It also proved that the person tasked with adapting it needed to understand the story better than Snyder seems to here.

    Maybe one day.

New cut, same problems. Sofia isn’t great and it needed Tom Hagen in the story. Fix those things and the coda likely would have been a bigger success. As is, it works fine.

    Happy 80th Uncle Al ❤️

Had the itch to rewatch ever since I saw a clip of Pacino guarding his glasses from falling off a table a couple weeks ago. Twitter, as it turns out, is good for something!!

Despite having a filmography that scratches a lot of itches for different types of movie watches, it feels like Michael Mann is an underrated filmmaker. When I think of my favorite directors, I don’t even think of him, despite the star…

Say what you will about the filmmaking choices, but the casting is just off-the-charts good. This also made for an interesting watch post Songbirds and Snakes.

Great concept, great execution, these movies are really good!

    Excalibur

We used to be a society that made well-lit, extremely horny fantasy epics with excellent production design and terrible performances. What happened to us? Why did we let Ronald Reagan do this to us?

Watching this triggered a deeper think about something I’ve become a little obsessed with recently: the concept of what storytelling should be. And where I’ve settled on it for now is that we’ve become a little too concerned with thoughts and people explaining them to each other…
