I was quite expecting Omid Djalili to say “welcome to Abu Dhabi, my humble home”
That’ll have saved this film for me.
]]>“F**k this franchise”
Exactly what I said few minutes into this.
Jim Carrey carried this installment all on his back… he is an evergreen character actor.
]]>My mom doesn’t watch anything other than Nollywood. She barely understands foreign english and accents and never gets to flow with dialogues that not in traditional African tone. So for the first time ever, with subtitles, she actually sat through this film and I’m over the moon about it.
I’m so happy! And she totally likes this film, so I’m going to reserve my personal opinions about it and enjoy the moment!
]]>Starting the new year with one of Chris Nolan’s masterpiece, just to get a chance to see one of the most beautiful shot ever, Tom Hardy hanging around a burning plane before being zapped. I love you so much Hoyte van Hoytema.
This is going to be a great year for cinema, for cinephiles. Happy New Year LB Family.

]]>“You can’t survive on your own”
“Nobody can, but here we are…”
I’ve watched promos and BTS interviews about this project and everyone I saw and listened to were super confident they made ‘the thing’. Tickets have to be sold. I get it.
The world has moved on from Disney but we may never get to actually see that realistically simply because… well they are acquiring every other studio and distribution companies, a large percentage of the cinema goers are actually going to theaters owned by the big guy.
Anyway I have mixed feelings about this film. Lin-Manuel Miranda delivers songs that are catchy but doesn’t stick, he’s usually better than this. The score on the other hand is perfect. Barry’s frequent collaborator James Laxton really need to get into more of this stuff, his work here is a real selling point. He sure worked really hard to even out the mess the cgi guys made from overcooking the live action idea someone brought up to suffocate us with. The voice acting is wooden, so the live action sequences tend to lag behind dialogues. I remember seeing TLK(2019) in theatre and I completely thrashed it, so I think MUFASA is a huge improvement on Jon Favreau’s mistake for a remake.
One of the greatest independent filmmaker of our time, Barry Jenkins. Barry Jenkins on the other hand, has supposedly gotten his big paycheck. He needs it, we all need a big paycheck. He won’t stop now. I hope he didn’t sign a long term contract. Cinephiles need this man to not branch out. Otherwise Independent cinema just lost a brother.

]]>In an alternate world where Amber Heard’s court case is non existent, this film would still not be good enough.
]]>Just a routine glance at Liam Neeson’s action template.
This has some awesome designs all round and also in a couple of shots in between sequence, you’ll find some of the worst cgi performances ever and overall it looks completely different from all previous installments, but these flaws and good parts make it a traditionally solid Transformers film. The premise looks very predated, there’s more focus on the machines because the franchise is supposed to be about them and not about the perfect curves on Megan Fox.
This installment is not as good as any of the ones before, but I think it’s a good start. Certainly there’ll be more to come and room to get better and better.

]]>A horror film that doesn’t scare my girlfriend enough, is not horror enough hehe…
Trying to overlook a lot because I want to like this film. its got great production design and cinematography. The story is told from a war journalist pov, while the delivery around is action based genius.
But yea absolutely feel nothing for the characters which makes the entire idea looks light… it’s like telling us to glorify a bunch of reporters because they brought us good footages of a war, just for the pleasure of it.

]]>*a candid dry description by a much younger me because apparently I don’t seem to forget the past that much* sorry.
I’m taking a dip into the filmography(Directorial + feature films in which he is the lead or part lead) of the guy who dazzled me growing up... you know there’s always that one guy in an action movie that shows up in a scene looking fairly beatable but apparently not!... growing up there was this mentality among my peers( it was kind of natural back then to watch action films with people, because the dialogue and even the story mainly was not a concern but the action sequences) that big guys are slow and usually gets defeated by skinny guys in fighting sequences, but not this Fatso, he was nothing like we’ve ever seen, he was completely out of shape for someone so incredible and practically flawless at martial arts, and on top of that he was charming and funny as hell and we loved him for that... maybe not as much as we loved Jackie Chan or Jet Li but we did genuinely love him. We had a nickname for him in my deep local dialect, anytime he popped up on screen, there was bound to be someone who will scream” ‘Emahoo’ is going to whoop his ass!!”
‘Emahoo’ was what we called very big men/women(like that lady from Kung Fu Hustle) who were mostly tied to the antagonist, they were mostly bodyguards or people the villain calls on to fight for them.
Later on as my knowledge of film got better, I was surprised to find out that most of the films that we loved watching back then had his prints all over them, either as a director, a stuntman,A choreographer, a writer, producer... I was stunned to find out that he directed Knockabout and Mr Nice Guy which were equally like the funniest and badass films I’ve ever seen in my entire life! Damn! I loved those films back then and he also directed a lot of Jackie Chan’s flicks and also worked in a lot of popular films that we enjoyed watching..
Martial arts really shaped my idea and love for film because growing up for some reasons they were really really accessible more than any other type of films and also i watched films in groups growing up and everyone else would always wanted movies that had action in them and we were basically very young and completely mesmerized by Asian action films.
So here’s to one of the greatest in Asian Cinema, a phenomenal action figure and incredibly awesome and flawless filmmaker, The Biggest Big Brother Sammo Fatso Emahoo Hung!!!
