The Upper World is calling down to you; its words are scalded down, upon the dust, in burning script
Purveyors grabbed its details by the teeth and drove down bolts of cherry red into its spine
The grin of greed pulled all the resources up from the ground, refining them for use and trade
The marks of buckshot riddled along the scrapes of skidding steel and speed
Spit-shined chromium, hate-welded to the hinges of the gates of hell
The orange soil caked upon the machination’s tumorous remains
You’ll hold your breath, waiting to listen for the rumbling sounds to pass
The pungent scent of burning rubber left behind to mark the western way
The road leads back to long-ago, the pathways freckled above with satellites
The yesteryears lie up ahead: green lawns and television shows
The storehouses of hope filled to the brim, with ample excess for all who need
The mind draws pictures of the peace and calm down in the dirt
So it can be erased as soon as someone tries to look
