The Valley of the Fallen is a side quest in Horizon Forbidden West.
Synopsis[]
At Fall's Edge, a Lowlander named Nakko asks Aloy to check on his brother, Daxx. Daxx and two others went missing after entering the Valley of the Fallen. The Valley has traditionally hosted a test of endurance for the clan, but has been closed for months on account of increased machine presence and strange lights off the coast. At the entrance to the valley, Aloy meets Marshal Ivvira, who was called in to find the missing soldiers: only one, Kenalla, has been found. After Ivvira mentions that the machines appear to be drawn towards the Valley, Aloy goes in alone to investigate.
Aloy realizes that the "strange lights" are coming from Far Zenith's base, situated on an island south of the Valley. At each of the two sites Ivvira mentioned, Aloy finds deadly machines and machine lures of Zenith make. After clearing out the machines and overriding them, she finds logs from an AI named "the Julius" confirming her suspicions: the Zeniths placed the lures to keep the Tenakth away from their base.
From the logs, Aloy finds the location of a third and final lure, as well as Yivekka, one of the missing Tenakth. After clearing out the nearby machines, Aloy speaks to Yivekka. Ivvira arrives soon after, just in time for a group of new machines to arrive.[note 1] The Marshal and Champion finish them together, and Aloy shuts down the last lure: a recovered log reveals that the Julius was placed by Erik, and that it shut itself down after the last lure was overridden. Aloy informs Ivvira that the Valley is clear and likely safe for the time being, explaining the root cause of the machine incursions. While somewhat disappointed to hear that the machines will not return, Ivvira is disgusted at the meaningless slaughter of her people, and thanks Aloy for her help. The two then part ways, with Ivvira staying behind to tend to Yivekka.
