- "Looks like the whole place flooded. Maybe from a recent storm."
- ―Aloy, approaching the village
The Deluge is a side quest in Horizon Forbidden West.
Synopsis[]
While wandering Scalding Spear, Aloy is stopped by a face painter apprentice asking if she has heard from Bleeding Mark, a northern desert village. Zokkah explains that they have not received their supply of ashblood, a rock he powders to use as paint for his trade, for some time. As Scalding Spear is unable to spare any soldiers to investigate, a concerned Zokkah pleads with Aloy that if she find herself in the area to seek Kentokk or Natikka.
Traveling north, Aloy finds the village flooded. Approaching a group of survivors clustered atop a roof, the warrior in charge introduces herself as Natikka. She informs Aloy that the last storm had been particularly severe, triggering a mudslide that had swept through the village. Still in the midst of locating survivors and tending to the wounded, Aloy offers her assistance. Before heading out, Natikka asks her to keep a look out for Kentokk.
Using her Focus to locate and rescue survivors from a nearby overlook and broken tower, Aloy ventures across the floodwaters to rescue the last group of survivors from a group of Burrowers and Snapmaws. None of the survivors however had seen Kentokk. Returning to the rooftop, Natikka mentions she had been the last to see him before the storm hit. She had told him that she'd wanted to join the Chief's Guard, an honorable role given only to the most capable warriors to protect Chief Hekarro and The Grove. As her squad leader, Kentokk had refused to discharge her, believing her greater purpose was to serve her squad. Frustrated, Natikka had initially left despite Kentokk's orders but returned again to the village to make amends. As Aloy is readying to make another sweep of the village, a wounded warrior regains consciousness, asking for Kentokk. He reveals that the squad leader had saved him, but had been unable to avoid being taken by floodwaters towards the Gouge. Unable to leave before issuing orders to the survivors, Natikka tells Aloy to head to the ruins without her.
Arriving at the Gouge, Aloy ventures down the shaft to find a gravely wounded Kentokk. Having tried and failed to climb out as the walls were too slick to climb, he had resigned himself to await his end. Kentokk admits that he was wrong not to discharge Natikka. Although recognizing the severity of his wound, Aloy refuses to let him perish there, and manages to release the flow of water to raise the debris he is stranded on so they can escape. Natikka arrives as Aloy is helping him out of the shaft, but Kentokk passes before she has the chance to speak with him.
Natikka decides she will remain in Bleeding Mark to lay Kentokk to rest and to allow the village time to recover before joining the Chief's Guard. She thanks Aloy for draining the floodwaters from the village and for helping locate the villagers.
