For the mission in Grand Theft Auto V, see Fire Truck (mission).

The Fire Truck (also known as the Fire-engine[1]) is a firefighting apparatus appearing in Grand Theft Auto, Grand Theft Auto: London 1969, Grand Theft Auto: London 1961 and Grand Theft Auto 2.

The Fire Truck goes on to appear in every game throughout the Grand Theft Auto series, returning in the 3D Universe (where it is named "Firetruck") and later in the HD Universe. It is the only vehicle in the entire series to appear in every GTA game.

Design[]

Grand Theft Auto[]

Grand Theft Auto features two variants of the Fire Truck, which are generally depicted in the style of typical American fire trucks:

  • The first one is a standard cab with a long hood/nose, appearing in Liberty City and Vice City. It has a single light bar and a "FIRE" marking on the roof.
  • The second one is a cab-over-engine truck, exclusive to San Andreas. It has what seems to be a round red rotating light, a "SAFD" marking and a red stripe on the roof.

Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 and London 1961[]

The Fire Truck featured in Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 and Grand Theft Auto: London 1961 assumes a more 1960s European design, likely to be based on a chassis of a British truck such as a F/Delta-type Dennis; the vehicle's design is also adapted into the ICBM. It has a white "FIRE" marking, rotating lights and a ladder/ladder-cannon setup.

Grand Theft Auto 2[]

In Grand Theft Auto 2, the Fire Truck is designed in a classical American LaFrance-like appearance, in line with the game's retro-futuristic styling. It is also introduced with a functional water cannon.

Performance[]

The main virtues of the Fire Truck are its large size and weight, which make the vehicle resilient to damage and difficult for most other cars to ram off-course. Other common traits of these early renditions are their average speed, and poorer acceleration and cornering. While revealed in game files in GTA and GTA London to be valued at $1,500 and £1,500, respectively, the vehicle cannot be exported as it is too large.

In GTA , the water cannon serves as a passive weapon which pushes (human) targets back using a gush of water. A Fire Truck with a mounted flamethrower may also be unlocked by completing the Wang Cars side quest. Like in earlier games, the Fire Truck is too large to be crushed. Similarly to the Tank, one can rotate the water cannon by holding Tab on PC and using the left and right arrow keys. Note the player cannot do this while steering.

Locations[]

The Fire Truck will be dispatched to fires caused by the player in all games, with the exception of the PlayStation version of both Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Auto: London 1969.
