Anthills are a variety of large caves hosting a colony of multiple species of ants. They hold many unique resources such as Red Ant Eggs as well as a large amount of marble and quartzite shard variations and Slime Mold Stalks. Currently, three species of ants exist in the game with their respective hills, being Black Ants, Red Ants and Fire Ants.

Each anthill, excluding the Old Anthill, additionally has an Ant Queen for each any type. The player is able to find each queen in their respective chambers, and give them offerings to gain various items, though not without various consequences. Each Ant Queen has 3 choices for their respective offerings, and only one choice can be made per world without going to New Game+.

List of Anthills[]

Black Anthill

The Black Anthill is the second largest anthill in Grounded, found the south-western most location of the Backyard, with entrances located in the Trash Heap and Sandbox. It is one of the largest and more complex anthills, stretching from the Trash Heap to the Sandbox.

Overview[]

The Black Anthill has two entrances, both relatively difficult to get to. The Trash Heap one requires a Gas Mask to reach while the Sandbox one can only be reached via the zipline in the Picnic Table or by building inside the Sandbox. The actual cave is somewhat lit up and full of lab wreckage. Along with this, the soldier ants in the area are fairly cramped into certain areas, with two areas being a hotspot for large clusters of them. Along with this, many rocks are found blocking key areas of the biome that require a Bratburst to break. About 5 of these rocks are found in the biome.

From the Trash Heap entrance, the player will spiral down various tunnels full of Black Soldier Ants. Eventually it leads to a split path, the left way leads to the lab in the area and the other to another section. The left section area leads to a well lit chamber that holds the Sector A area of the lab, include a path to the Sandbox entrance, Sector B, and the Assistant Manager arena. The right way leads to the chamber with the Sector B lab, and eventually to a large chamber full of Black Soldier Ants and a separated section of the lab.

A small tunnel to the right of this room leads to the Black Ant Queen.

Fire Anthill

The Fire Anthill is one of the largest anthills in the game, found underneath the Upper Grasslands. It has three entrances the player can enter from, an entrance under the Lawnmower, an entrance in the middle of the grassy part of the Upper Grasslands, and a large ravine in the ground near the Stump. It has no real reason to enter apart from having a lot of valuable resources.

Overview[]

The Fire Anthill can be separated into three major rooms, a medium-sized room with some Chewed Gum and a Hot Chachas Candy in the middle, a chain of rooms full of Marble, and a large room filled with roots in the ceiling, intended for parkouring. The Lawnmower Anthill will always lead to the marble rooms, the Jungle Anthill will lead to the gum room, and the ravine can lead to all three rooms depending on the entrance taken in the area. All the other rooms also eventually connect to each other, meaning all can be found no matter the entrance taken. The hallways in-between are commonly filled with patrolling Fire Soldier Ants and sleeping Fire Worker Ants, making swarms of them easy to come across. Some side areas covered by Dead Roots can also be found, though these areas are mostly just filled with upgrade shards.

Old Anthill

The Old Anthill is a landmark in Grounded. This location is found on the south side of the base of the Oak Hill biome. It is a smaller anthill than the Red Anthill, as well as having fewer ants living inside the area then the Red Anthill.

Overview[]

The cave starts at an entrance located at the base of the oak tree and extends downwards to a corridor that may have sleeping ants during the night. The corridor leads to a central chamber that will hold many Red Soldier Ants, though much less then the Red Anthill. Due to this, the Old Anthill is a great place to get early Red Ant Mandibles from the Red Soldier Ants inside. Going past this area will lead to another corridor containing more Soldier Ants that will eventually lead to a dead end with a SCA.B Scheme in the corner. This dead end also connects to the Oak Lab and serves as a one-way exit from the area.

Red Anthill

The Red Anthill is currently the third largest Anthill in Grounded, located near the border with the Central Grasslands and the Haze. It's the only place that the player can obtain Red Ant Eggs as of now, as well as holding Rotten Bee Armor.

The area also counts as a Explorer Quest area, having a flag near the entrance when the quest is accepted. The cave can be navigated easily with a full set of Red Ant Armor as long as the player does not attack a ant or pick up an egg.

Overview[]

The anthill is fairly large, holding multiple rooms and corridors dimly lit up with Slime Mold Stalks. The cave also has multiple rooms, such as the egg rooms, main chambers, and the treasure rooms. The egg rooms are easily noticed by the ruptured eggs located on the floor of the room. Red Worker Ants will commonly lay eggs in the area when the population is low, in which they can be looted by the player or left to hatch. The main chambers are another main section of the anthill, commonly found in the upper section of the cave and holding multiple Red Soldier Ants and other Resources. The final special room is the treasure room located in the deepest portion of the hill and can easily be found by following the red moss-like species located on the walls of the cave. It can be accessed by a neighboring corridor or a hole located in a egg room. The treasure room holds a BURG.L Chip, A Sturdy Quartzite, and a Fresh Mint, being the one of few early-game Mints that respawn.
