Paul Ben Johnson is the late father of Rainbow Johnson. He was a hippie who lived in a poop bus along with his wife and loved the idea of having a black wife so much that his bumper sticker says "black wife." He was the dad of Rainbow, Santamonica, and Johan. He passed away in the episode "Dream Home" of Season 4 finale. His death was the event that started the rebuild of Bow and Dre's marriage.

Before the series Paul references being from a rich upbringing and went to college to study law, however he only completed a semester and a half. Somewhere in his life he became liberal. He met Alicia at some point and the two married.
He lived on a commune for 15 years with his wife and children.
After he left the commune (it was disbanded by the U.S government) he lived with his father. At some point in the mid to late 1980s he became a teacher.
Politics[]
Although originally conservative, somewhere in his life Paul became immensely liberal, both on social and economic issues. Although, ironically this is sometimes undermined by his arguably overbearing parenting style. He despises both conformity and capitalism.

- When he was a child he inadvertently wore black-face when he was a chimney sweep on Halloween.
- He loves Halloween because he feels like it is the only day of the year when kids can be kids.
