Unaired Episode[]
“ | One of the things that has always made ‘Black-ish’ so special is how it deftly examines delicate social issues in a way that simultaneously entertains and educates. However, on this episode, there were creative differences we were unable to resolve. | ” |
— A Spokesperson for ABC
|
“ | Given our creative differences, neither ABC nor I were happy with the direction of the episode and mutually agreed not to air it.... 'Black-ish’ is a show that has spoken to all different types of people and brought them closer as a community and I’m so proud of the series. | ” |
— Kenya Barris to 'Variety'
|
"Please, Baby, Please" is an episode that wasn't aired, for creative reasons[4]. It was filmed in November 2017, and was scheduled to air February 27, 2018[5]. However this episode was pulled 5 days before[5], it was replaced by a repeat of an episode. The episode was claimed "too political" for the network to run. A spokesperson for ABC stated that there were creative differences that couldn't be resolved. The network has no plan to air the episode or make it available through other forms of distribution. There is an opinion of possibility that because of the falling ratings people were getting tired of the political episodes and wanted more comedic value in the episodes, or just wanted comedy. This has not been confirmed, this is rumor and matter of opinion.
Plot[]
The episode description was: "Dre tries to read a bedtime story to Devante during a thunderstorm, but instead improvises a new story based on recent social and political issues in the United States". One of the scenes included a debate over the right of athletes to kneel during the national anthem[6][7].
