Patwin Lawrence was a 2016 Democratic candidate for District 59 of the Minnesota State Senate.

Campaign themes

2016

Lawrence's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

As senator, Patwin will support:

Jobs and Economic Development:

  • Growing of businesses and job creation within Senate District 59 through building stronger partnerships between state and local government, with both small and large businesses, and implementation of strategies to expand economic development in ALL communities throughout the district

Human Rights :

  • Restoration of the voting rights of 47,000 Minnesotans who are ineligible to vote because of a felony conviction. Simply restoring their vote is not enough. Restoration efforts should include economic/jobs/entrepreneur component to aid in reducing the recidivism rates and bring true inclusion and productive integration into society.

Housing:

  • Investment in the Minnesota Housing Finance Authority comprehensive housing plan to achieve the following in District 59 and throughout the state:
  • Promoting and supporting successful homeownership
  • Preventing foreclosures and supporting community recovery
  • Addressing specific and critical needs in rental housing market
  • Persevering federally subsidized rental housing
  • Preventing and ending homelessness

Education:

  • Educators from other states should be able to use their degrees and licenses in the state of Minnesota

Cultural/Arts:

  • Continued support of libraries, theaters, museums, and historical sites in District 59[1]
