|Claire Jones earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Music Business at Belmont. After feeling a calling to help people, Claire went back to Belmont to get her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She worked as an ER nurse, ICU nurse and is now working as a hospice nurse.
Claire is running to return balance to the TN State House. She wants to put people over party and create a Tennessee that reflects the people of the state.
- Protecting Children: Every child deserves a high-quality public education in a safe school. Claire supports increasing school funding and teacher pay. She opposes school vouchers. Claire also wants to address the gun violence epidemic for our children. While she is a gun owner and respects the second amendment, Claire knows our state can do better to protect Tennesseans. Guns are the number one cause of death for kids and teens in Tennessee. Common sense gun safety legislation can reduce accidental shootings, suicide and community gun violence.
- Protecting Healthcare: As a nurse, Clare has a lot of professional knowledge to bring to the healthcare debate. Tennessee has a large number of uninsured people, high incidents of medical bankruptcies and is facing countless rural hospital closures. Claire supports Tennessee expanding Medicaid to ensure more people have access to healthcare and prevent rural hospital closures. Claire also wants to stop politicizing healthcare. She wants physicians to have the freedom to do their job and patients to have the freedom to make the medical decisions that are best for them and their families.
- Protecting Freedom: Claire believes extreme TN state laws are impeding on our freedoms. The total abortion ban, book bans and anti LGBTQ+ laws are taking away our freedoms and harming some of the states most vulnerable communities.
Claire is very passionate about healthcare. She wants to make sure Tennesseans have access to healthcare when they need it.
To do this she will focus on expanding Medicaid to combat rural hospital closures, decrease medical bankruptcies and increase access to healthcare for Tennesseans.
Claire also wants to fight to ensure healthcare workers are able to provide evidence-based, best practice medical care without government interference.
Claire is also determined to fight for common sense gun safety legislation. As a gun owner, Claire supports the second amendment but knows gun ownership comes with responsibility. She would like to see a 24 hour waiting period to purchase a gun, a safe storage law and an Extreme Risk Protection Order Law.
Lawmakers must be willing to listen to their constituents and try to understand their perspective. Claire will always be willing to have difficult discussions with constituents and try to find common ground.
As a hospice nurse, Claire has provided compassionate care to patients from all walks of life and across the political spectrum. She will apply that skill to work with lawmakers and voters in her district to find common ground and pass legislation that benefits her district and all Tennesseans.
